Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before joining couch surfing I did it on my own, often staying with people I met on my travels, especially in south east europe. I think it's the best way to experience the "real" way of life (hope that doesn't sound patronising?), whether that be a lovely penthouse in Tiranna or a grotty student flat in Chisinau... experiences are always appreciated.

Interests

Things that I enjoy... travelling of course, though that's a fairly pointless answer here... photographing irreverencies, hitch-hiking, watching football matches, trying and cooking local foods, Yugoslav cinema, Nutella, Zagreb, Tolstoy's Crime and Punishment, Orwell (esp Homage to Catalonia), Yugoslav pop and new wave music, writing creatively and factually, Tito.

Music, Movies, and Books

Given my field of studies, I'm obviously interested in Yugoslav films, having said that, I enjoy watching any world cinema.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first really big journey I took on my own in 2006 when I backpacked around Eastern Europe for two months. I met so many wonderful people and had so many lovely experiences. I think that this journey, however basic it was in many respects, did change me as a person, or at least showed me how I want to live my life (not necessarily as somebody who permanently backpacks but as a person who is open to lots of different cultures and has respect for them)

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to learn recipes from places I go and then try to cook them when I get back home. It's like bringing a bit of the culture home with me.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Vatican City State
