Sobre mí

I’m set to “Maybe” because hosting in LA requires coordination. I don’t host last-minute requests and prefer independent, communicative travelers.

I'm a not especially tech savvy, but have been on and off couchsurfing for many years, and in my younger days traveled and hosted. My profile is due for an annual rewrite.

I currently live in Los Angeles after spending time in several other places. Life here tends to run on a busy schedule, balanced with enjoying the weather and downtime when possible. That being said, hosting here can be a bit logistically challenging, and I’m selective about when it makes sense.

My place does have a ton of amenities that you can use - a pool, sauna, gym, laundry, basketball, etc. So you can wander around the place, although it's not exactly walking distance to anything else. It's not near where people sightsee.

Anyway I am trying to filter out last-minute chaos travelers, but if you're intentionally respectful that you're staying at someone's apartment, we should be good. Just shoot me a request and I'll see if I can accommodate you.

You can read more about me on a very nice website that needs updating - www.chasingtheharvest.com

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

During a set break at one of my shows one night I met someone that told me all about CS. He said if I ever wanted to go on tour I should join. It turned out he was right. I was on the road for 6 months in 2010, and made a lot of friends on CS. Since then I've mostly met CSers randomly, which led to hosting a few times. I met a host at an unrelated conference (sustainability conference) and he invited me to work on his organic farm for the summer (see pictures). Everyone I've talked to has good things to say about it, and everyone I've surfed with/ hosted has been great.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's pretty great to be able to stay places, save money and meet great people. Couch surfing is the reason I could be on the road playing music many summers ago. I even had a CS friend get me a few gigs. Really I just contribute by helping to cook and wash dishes when I can. As I've been busy with school the last few years I have not been able to host as much as I would have liked. Not currently hosting.

Intereses

My personal travel aspirations are to one day (maybe 2026 or 2027) get a round the world (RTW) plane trip and visit wine regions including Santiago area (Chile), Mendoza (Argentina), obviously Europe, Cape Town (South Africa), Perth and Melbourne (Australia) and Marlborough (New Zealand). I hope to gain employment in several countries to make wine, after working at a winery in Napa, CA.

Música, películas y libros

Most recently I've been listening to Los Lobos, Bonnie Raitt, John Scofield, Led Zeppelin, Warren Haynes, Kaki King and Chet Atkins. Basically any guitar playing that catches my ear.

I am really behind with movies and especially making lists of them. Going to cheap theaters is fun on occasion, or if there's a movie you have to see in theaters I sometimes check those out.

Currently reading Oliver Morton and highly recommend both his nonfiction books in terms of learning about the lives of scientists.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I couchsurfed with Rudy "Tutti" Grayzell for a month in Pebble Beach, CA.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

If I could make a living giving nature walks I most certainly would. In fact I was a teaching assistant in graduate school for botany and plant physiology courses. If you think nature walks are boring, I give a decent nature walk, and would be willing to have you along.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I play guitar and am decent sounding as if from early folk/singer/songwriter stuff. I may also, if traveling, be writing a book about wine (see above), so I can share excerpts from that and obviously pop a bottle.
