About Me

I am a 6'6" student that enjoys the passion and thrill of medicine, along with adventuring. My pursuits of higher education stem from a never-ending drive towards learning more and sharing that knowledge with everyone I can. This is what brings me to want to travel.

Ultimately, I wish to bring my medical skills across the world providing medical services, but more importantly, to teach those skills so we can establish ongoing care of people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling is not merely about seeing the sights and internalizing it, it's about enjoying the people and culture of each place that you visit. We are interdependent people and crave attention from one another - I want to share my stories and learn yours. We can travel to far away lands just by listening to the vivid stories of those that have traveled.

Couchsurfing is not a community where you search for just a free place to sleep, instead, it is a meeting point for people who travel sharing the same philosophy. You can find new friends and good company during your travels, you can offer help in difficult situations and find better ways to explore and enjoy the culture through the support of local people.

If you share my ideas and you are looking for someone who will cook with you, go out with you, chat with you about anything, ask you about your country and share travel experiences then you are more than welcome to meet me!

Interests

I have always been an adventure junkie and have never been able to afford many trips. I think the lack of funds has certainly helped keep me humble and understand the value of a dollar.

Though I wasn't a 'Boy Scout' growing up, I've since learned to love the outdoors and enjoy the self-sufficiency needed to survive in the wild with minimal supplies. I teach Wilderness Survival, primitive fire making and suturing classes among other things and greatly enjoy passing along any other skills that I know.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I enjoy mostly American Alternative music (i.e. Third Eye Blind, Panic! at the Disco, Blink 182, 21 Pilots, etc) but indulge in styles and genres from all over the world - Mexican guitar, classical, rock,

Movies Top 10: Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Crash, Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Shutter Island, Toy Story (all), Harry Potter (all), Star Wars (all)

Books: I barely have the time to read outside of medical studying but I'm currently trying to read a book on the Haitian health care system by renowned doctor Dr. Paul Farmer. I've always loved 'Water for Elephants' and anything written by Dr. Atul Gawande.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took my first trip abroad to Haiti on Christmas day 2016 to provide medical care to an entire village with the assistance of a small medical team. We ended up treating over 500 people over two days. I will most definitely be returning in the future.

Teach, Learn, Share

The easiest things for me to teach on-the-go are suturing knots, wilderness knots, rope-making and a ton of medical knowledge on top of it all. I'd love to teach you whatever I know (but know that I cannot diagnose your rash).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories from the many years I've worked as an EMT or tales from the depths of the hospital and medical school.

I have a very upbeat personality and try to seek the best in every individual. My sense of humor is light and airy, I'm happy to make terrible jokes to make others laugh.
