About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Returning to the USA after 2 years in Japan! First stop is Okinawa and then flying back to New York. Going to drive up to L'Anse-aux-Meadows in Newfoundland (the remains of the oldest known European settlement in North America), then over to Chicago for the Music Box of Horror film marathon, down to New Orleans for the jazz, through Texas for the BBQ, over the deserts for the views, and on to San Diego!

ABOUT ME

Writer. Traveller. Thinker. Semantics enthusiast. Maths aspirationalist. Metropolitain connoisseur. Things jumper overer .Long road walker. Country wide driver. Spends too much time attempting to achieve the perfect cup of coffee. Spends not enough time perfecting the unachievable cup of tea. Reads books, watches films, consumes television, and explores extensively—all for the exact same reasons. Has no true idea what those reasons are. Wishes literature were more scientific, and science more literary. Is usually hungry.

I do my best to be an excellent guest and I'm a very adaptable person. If you need to work and sleep and can only offer a place to sleep, that's wonderful--I'm perfectly happy to explore on my own! If you're the kind of person who wants to take me on a tour, maybe hang out with your friends in a bar late into the night--that's awesome too!

I'm a very respectful, clean person, and I always pick up after myself :) And since I know there's been some concern in the community about ungrateful and expectant guests, I'll just say that if I'm a guest in your home, the only thing I really expect is to have at least a 6'x2' space to lay my head for the night. Food, conversation, entertainment is totally at your discretion--I am simply grateful for any kindness.

PHILOSOPHY

I used to have a bunch written here, but in the last few years I've found that my perspective on life went from solid to mush. The more I learn, the more I question.

I can say this much with certainty: I'd like to leave this world better than I found it.

I can confidently add two quotes that sum up the way I approach the world:

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
- Uncertain attribution

"If the dream is won
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost."
-Rush

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed all over Europe, doing my best to maintain the good name of our community, and spreading the word far and wide!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've had nothing but great experiences! People open their doors and lay out their blankets without a second thought--it's a marvel :)

Interests

I love to read and love books in and of themselves. I am also a writer, so that goes hand-in-hand nicely.

I have a great love of the arts but also a deep and powerful fascination with science, particularly physics and mathematics.

I used to be a circus performer and a magician and have an enduring interest in those wonderful arts.

I've been deeply interested in Japanese culture for a while now and have been soaking up as much of it as I can. Literature, film, history, language. It's a deep, deep well.

I want to learn a large variety of languages, even though I'm currently only fluent in English and can "get around" in Spanish. If I ever get some Japanese speaking practice going, I'll be pretty decent in that, too.
