About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet interesting people and to give a helping hand to cheapskates.

ABOUT ME

I like making things. Clothing and textiles, food, music, and collage art are high on my list.

I am a cheapskate when it's to my advantage, but I'm kind of lazy about it. For example, I like to eat at locally owned (non-chain) restaurants, but I am unlikely to take the time to find a coupon or look around for a deal.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe people are inherently good. I feel a responsibility to care for others, especially those who have been less fortunate. I have a strong sense of justice.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When my house is clean I'm happy to have people stay. When I get frantic I have a tendency to be messy and then I'm embarrassed to have anyone over, so I don't. I have a dog and my downstairs neighbor has cats, so this is not an allergy-free home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have crashed with people for years. My boyfriend often hosts couchsurfers and I've met some neat people that way, so I decided to sign up here. One of the worst experiences I ever had was when I went to a city my dad was visiting and crashed at his hotel with him...only he was actually crashing with two other guys, and he was sleeping on the floor, so by default, so was I. Only, I had no mattress, just a sleeping bag on a concrete floor, and he snored SO LOUD that I got no sleep.

Interests

Science fiction and fantasy books and movies, knitting, spinning, urban farming, community building, peace building, understanding the meaning of life, connecting with friends and family, plywood sailboats, skin-on-frame construction, beer, wine, and mixed drinks, home distillation processes, visiting commercial distilleries, hound sports, fishing, whitewater canoeing, contra dancing, old time music, ragtime music, Stephen Foster songs.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh jeez. I'm a librarian with eclectic tastes. I will read anything. I don't particularly like some types of jazz, and I don't seek out electronica. I guess my favorite musical genre is americana. Frank Turner is my current favorite singer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My aunt and I climbed 1000 steps in one day. It was on a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days, and she agreed to do it with me. We climbed the Larkspur stairs in Marin County, CA, and some other stairs in the city of San Francisco and in Sausalito.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to knit. I can teach you how to make bread or risotto. I can teach you to wire a simple circuit. I can teach intro to Arduino programming. Ask me about something else and maybe I can teach that, too!
