About Me

Love travelling, meeting new people and learning new things! Interested in all things cultural: art, music, history etc, and especially fascinated with seeing unique fascinating sights

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been a more or less serious solo traveller on and off for three years now and with time I've learned more and more what makes the perfect journey for me! Learning about culture, different cities and towns and meeting locals and other travellers together are some of the things I value most, and while guidebooks and museums help loads, the best quality time I've had has always been in the company of others! Although I'm quite new to Couchsurfing, I'm already super convinced of this from my time using Blablacar (https://m.blablacar.es/user/show/Fi4UZkbbMrxK4rxrboMv1w) - some of the best travels I've had! Given all the joys I've had with blablacar, I can only expect equally great times here on Couchsurfing!!

Interests

It might feel cheating to say so, but I am interested in learning more about more or less anything I get the chance to learn more about! I've learned this from the countless times I've come to immensely appreciate things I previously didn't care for much at all. Ultimately my goal is almost to learn simply for the sake of learning! I sometimes joke with my friend that the more useless a factoid is, the more valuable it is! As an aside, I've spent an inproportionally pointless large amount of time getting decently good at chess - coincidentally also honing my most useless talent: playing chess blindfolded (poorly!)

That said, my special interests perhaps lie in music (concerts make up a larger portion of my expenditure than I'd like to admit...), culture (broadly speaking) and science (but being a full time science student I also appreciate taking breaks from it)! On that note though, I'm also interested in doing research of some kind in the future. My time working in a lab investigating regenerative medicine was incredibly exciting! But sadly unmanageable to maintain alongside studies. So the search goes on!

Also, everyone loves travelling, naturally, but I have an extra interest in discovering new places, their history, landmarks and people! And I hope couchsurfing will help me distance myself from spending too much time with tourists, and meeting locals and expats!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock/metal music through the ages, especially unique and creative acts eg progressive music. Last.fm/user/crabbycakes
Trying to read classics, especially gained an interest for it lately - Dostoyevsky, Nabokov, Orwell etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Huashan plank walk! Walk up a beautiful Chinese mountain for 4 hours - roll around on the ground from exhaustion while the cheaters who took the cable car laugh at you - run to the famous cliff solely fitted with 50 cm of planks and 500 m of free fall below you - walk for 10 min fearing for your life - get off and run back to catch your train, legs still shaking from fear!

All in all a unforgettable experience, and a good case study for us to ask what drives humans to expose themselves to such relentless suffering!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you the borderline eclectic language: Swedish! As a bonus, it's similar enough to Norwegian and Danish that you may have a slight understanding of those too!

I can teach you some guitar basics or simple songs or tricks! But if you ask me to show you how to play Wonderwall or Stairway to Heaven or Smells Like Teen Spirit, it is at your own risk and I take no responsibility for future lost friendships on your behalf from playing these at parties.

I used to play piano when I was younger so I can teach you a little of that too. While you're at it, remind me I actually have a piano at home. I tend to forget it altogether sadly!!

I can teach you some simple chess tricks so you can ideally become good enough at the game for your friends to stop wanting to play with you! If that's too banal, I can also teach you the more exotic Chinese, Japanese or Thai chess. Not that I'm particularly good at it!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun times and engaging conversations, gladly shared at a restaurant or bar - my treat of course!
