About Me

• Laidback, level-headed, and light-hearted with his occasional derpy moments
• Clean, organized, and respectful of people's spaces (have been repeatedly been told him he is OCD)
• The kind of guy who will try everything once, but has his go-to favorites
• An open book willing to discuss anything and hoping to others feel at ease to do the same with him
• Can barely remember where he was last week, but has memorized many random song lyrics

Personal philosophy, a quote by Hunter S. Thompson:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a ride!”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While part of reason I travel is to experience breathtaking and amazing sights (like most people), there is the people component of travelling that brings me to couchsurfing. With different places come different cultures -- different lifestyles, perspectives, ways of thinking, upbringing -- to realize the way one person sees the world is completely different than how another sees it by virtue of what he/she has already experienced mixed with his/her personality. And while I can I say I've been fortunate enough visit many places, I cannot say that I've truly experienced each place -- through its culture and people. I've had a taste of it as my family travelled frequently throughout my childhood and while solo backpacking through Europe for 5 weeks, but only enough to know that I should be doing more. On top of understanding a local's perspective, I'm also keen on sharing what I've seen -- to help others see not only the differences, but the similarities in other cultures and promote compassion from one person to the next.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music, in my opinion, is one of the greatest aspects of life -- one I could not live without. I am one of those people who is always listening to something -- headphones in a work, speakers at the gym, computer/TV at home -- it amplifies my mood and gets me hyped, calms me down and quiets my mind, helps me grief and heal during difficult times. In addition, music transcends personal entertainment by acting as a connector amongst complete strangers. And while my favorite genres are progressive house EDM and pop, I appreciate and listen to almost anything, especially if it is a new genre of music that I have yet to discover (and potentially like).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To keep this part short -- in one fell swoop, I quit my first job out of college, came out of the closet, solo backpacked across Europe, then returned and moved up from my hometown (Los Angeles) to my current city (San Francisco) without another job in line. While each individual act is nothing groundbreaking, the combination (in addition to where I was mentally) marks the greatest leap into the unknown that I've taken in my life -- all hoping that everything will work out (which, I'm happy to report, it has). Happy to share more about this experience as there are many more details of the story :)
