To find an answer to the question 'What are you doing next?'
ABOUT ME
In June, I graduated from university, completing sixteen straight years in education. Although I've really enjoyed my degree and would like to do further study in the future, I've decided that I want to do something different for a while. So I'm taking the next year out to see some of the world, and I hope that CS can help me along this path.
My degree was in Sociology and I'm especially interested in media and culture and social theory, but I love a good debate and strong opinion about nearly any topic. I've spent most of my free time over the last three years directing and writing plays and I also do stand-up comedy. When I have time to myself I love watching films and TV, and I'm also a bit of a news and current affairs addict.
Most of all, I'm interested in people and I really hope that CS will allow me to meet a variety of different people in different countries, and will give me a chance to find out the different things that interest them.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm keen to travel and love the opportunities for meeting new people that CS offers. I don't have my own couch to offer at the moment, but I can offer my company and basic tour guide experience to people in my area of Suffolk/Essex (Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Colchester).
Interests
TV - either high-quality American shows like Mad Men or The Simpsons or low-budget trash like those late-night documentaries following the police.
I love stand-up comedy and theatre, so my favourite place in the whole world is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Music, Movies, and Books
All kinds of movies: Scorcese and the other big American directors, film noir, indie flicks. The same goes for music, I like everything from indie to hip-hop to soul. My favourite novel is Independence Day by Richard Ford, but I mainly read newspapers. One of the goals for this year: read more proper things.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Last summer me and three friends walked from our houses along the course of the local river until it reached the sea.
Teach, Learn, Share
If anyone wants to know about media and cultural theory or contemporary social theory, I probably have some specific knowledge to impart. I can also teach you intermediate knitting, basic sewing and rudimentary guitar.
