About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn, listen, explore and soak up the the endless secrets of the universe. To embrace life and give back to my community.

ABOUT ME

AAAALLLLLLL about me in one small box? Definitely impossible, no?? That's why you will just have to host or surf with me to get to know me in PERSON... really it's the best way to know some one :)

In terms of my bio... Well, to start my name's Edith :) You can call me edie or didi or di or ed! I am a university student in Sydney. I just graduated from my undergraduate degrees of Law and Psychology and I hope to be a lawyer at Legal Aid (they provide free Government advice and representation for those in need) or work in human rights for NGO's. Unfortunately the way society works now a Bachelor really means nothing so I am currently doing a Post-Graduate Diploma... The studying never stops! This is only my 7th year of study... Interesting fact - I have studied at 8 universities in 5 different countries all around the world! First in Norway, then South Korea, then Austria and now, in the United States. Although I have basically fallen in love with every single country I have studied in, I still call Australia home :) I think traveling around the world has made me appreciate my home town the most, and also appreciate the beauty of the universe too. It is great to see such wonders and experience all the diverse cultures that exist out there, and then have a home to go back to.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is what you make it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been on CouchSurfing for a while now as I was caught up in finding a job after finishing my studies. I was living in America as an exchange student and had the tiniest room in the tiniest shared unit with 8 other girls so unfortunately didn't get that many keen guests but we did get a few and they have all been AWESOMEEEE! I then moved back home to save money and now am lucky enough to have just moved out to the beaches with my boyfriend and housemate. Once we get settled in and get all our furniture we will be able to host I'm so excited about it!! Otherwise at the moment I would love to take people out for a tour of Sydney and our beautiful beaches... HIT ME UP!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

First heard about it through a travel agent back in 2007 and didn't think much of it (sounded dodgy you know). But it really saved me when I was stuck with no place to stay and no friends as everything was closed on New Year's day in Oslo - I had such arrived from Sydney after a 36 hour flight and this Swedish girl took me in and made me feel so much at home.

That was in '07. In 2010, my friend Jenny and I also hosted a girl, Charlotte from Germany... was meant to be a short stay turned out she stayed for 3 whole weeks!! (Because we were that awesome... haha).

I think couch surfing is such a good way to actually experience the culture of the city you are visiting. It is not about meaninglessly taking photos of icons, but being able to leave the place you are visiting with a part of your heart and soul left behind... and only the people can make you feel that!

Interests

I love traveling, reading, painting, dancing, exploring... going on adventures!! I am basically interested in anything that is fun and active. I love the water since I grew up next to the beach so I also love the sun. I love wildlife and sealife so I love scuba diving. I would have studied marine biology ... but somehow I ended up studying law! Most of all, I think I just love trying NEW things. Hmmm... I also love soccer (BRASIL 2014!!!!!), swimming and running... beach volleyball is fun too but not that good at it :D I also love pole dancing (I know... bit random, but I do it for exercise... I swear!!). I love photography but I don't have a nice SLR so I do what I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Dinner at Schmucks, Water for Elephants... There's a whole lot more can't possibly name 'em all! Also love a good documentary... David Attenborough haha... Same wit music n' books. Janet Evanovich, Mathew Reilly... love autobiographies... Mao's last dancer. Red hot chilli peppers, jack Johnson, temper trap, angus n Julia stone, the xx, bliebs... (not really lol)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.... absolutely breathtaking!

Stayed wit some awesome kids in mountain caves that overlooked the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.

Sky diving at the Gold Coast, Australia

Hitting the slopes on the Austrian/Italian Alps.

Bummed at an abandoned mansion on a small island of Croatia, Vis and then swam in a blue cave there.

Camping in the Sahara, Morocco... even if the sandstorm did take out my camera, STILL HAD THE BEST TIME!

Touring the city of Chicago by bikes at night with some amazing locals... scaling buildings that were being torn down and finding awesome chill out spots along the river.

Eating absolutely everything I could in Mexico.

Climbing the Dunn's waterfall in Jamaica.

Going to Harry Potter World and drinking Butter Beer... Definitely tops the list!! :D

Teach, Learn, Share

Never give up I say. So many times I have doubted myself, but then in the end it was so rewarding when I threw myself into the deep end.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a big giver and what I love about having friends and family is so I can spoil them!! Same with hosts - when I receive generosity, it's only natural to return the good vibes. I would love to cook for you, or share with you some of my travel stories and experiences, or give you some personal space if that's what you need! I'll take your pet for a walk, look after your home, run errands for you.
