About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To embrace life.

ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Elliot. I am a native Californian who enjoys swimming, hiking, reading, movies, adventures and meaningful conversation. Some of the best experiences in life come from spontaneous decisions or a random chain of events.

PHILOSOPHY

I can't say I have a personal philosophy, as it constantly is evolving and changing throughout my life. I don't believe in stagnant things. I believe in the subtle energies and forces in the world that touch everything, yet are not malleable themselves. As a student of philosophy, this is not an easy question to answer!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to host travelers, and be hosted in the future when I take to the road. I've been told that "I've never met a stranger"; I enjoy meeting new people and sharing stories about life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I think it's a terrific way to connect with people and learn about different cultures. My wife and I have really enjoyed hosting people from different parts of the world, and hope to one day visit our couch surfing friends in their native countries!

Interests

Hiking, reading, swimming, presenting, meditating, thinking, eating, wine tasting, new adventures, kayaking, catching up with old friends, or meeting new ones.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like any movie, book or type of music that means something to me, or that is downright hilarious/entertaining!

Some movies: Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Matrix Trilogy, American Psycho, Before Sunrise/Before Sunset, Inception, Forrest Gump, It's a Wonderful Life, Around the World in 80 Days.

Books:
The Alchemist, Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings, Aristotle's Nichomicean Ethics, Nietzsche, Ender's Game, Shakespeare, Astronomy books, and Arab-Israeli relations books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Right after graduating from high school I took a road-trip across the United States, from Los Angeles to Montreal, and then to Boston. Along the way, I saw the Grand Canyon, the meteorite crater in New Mexico, a giant cross along the freeway in Texas, the memorial at the Oklahoma City Federal Building, stood under the great arch in St. Louis (actually went inside during a previous trip), went drifting in Detroit, and stood beneath Niagra Falls as 250,000 gallons of water poured over every second.

This trip made me realize how much there is just beyond my own world. I began appreciating just how diverse, amazing and different my own country was, let alone the world! This trip, more than any, sparked the international interest I always carry with me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love talking philosophy and politics while Shannon is passionate about education and religion. We both enjoy live theatre and art and want to continue our adventures around the world.
