About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find and eat food that tastes like something

ABOUT ME

Warning: I'm prone to typos. If bad grammar makes you allergic, possibly grab the box of Kleenexes.

Tambien, yo estoy tratando descibirme en español. Es dificil.

I love to cook and wield curry powder and fresh veggies in dangerous quantities. My E-mail correspondence is often long and highly parenthetical. Every thrift store in the world (in my mind at least) has exactly what I want, so I just need to manage to visit them all. In a dispute between the Greyhound buses and the airplanes, I side with the raw silver dog everytime. Want to know about the world? Listen to Mr. Bob Dylan.

Me gusta montar bicicletas antiguas y voy lento. Yo cocino demasiado "curry." Me gusta pasear y hacer senderismo.

PHILOSOPHY

To Dabble: to try as many different jobs out in fields I'm interested in, to travel to as many places as possible and meet as many people too. Lacking any flicker of genius, it would be nice to be a Renaissance man, but of course probably to be vaguely mediocre at all my hobbies. To have a nice broad experience. Working in an office taught me that though Excel is great, I would rather excel maybe at something else less mind-cannibalizing. And I guess to make miserable puns, but philosophically?

Philosofia en espanol? Verdad?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couch surfed and had a coffee and drink meet up with some great folks in Portland, OR. People in Berkeley have been really kind and showed me some real cool parts of their city. Now in Cuenca and I stayed with a cool couple who´ve given me heaps of good advice and food. I have met people in Miami through Couchsurfing as well as Chicago.

Quiero encontrar a muchos persones.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have only been a guest and down some meet ups. I do really like the coffee and drink meet up. It´s under-rated. Everyone I've encountered from this website has been resoundingly cool. It's amazing how well it's worked out.

Interests

Playing guitar, uke and singing songs in a voice that I someday hope will magically improve. Cooking, baking Grandma's old-fashioned roll recipe, having kids tell me outrageous stories, riding buses away from Nevada, hiking, backpacking, trail-building, lumberjack action, pontificating, pedantic rambles, reading books, buying many more books than I will ever read, writing bad poems and short stories, thrift store scrounging, meeting new people who will tell me absurd stories, riding bikes, cross-country skiing, jumping in cold rivers and lakes, visiting Wisconsin shrines built by religious nut jobs (there are many such shrines), trying to be a smell detective and discover what the bags of unmarked spices in my cabinet are, all things Lake Superior-related, hearing strangers talk art on trains, and my favorite activity of all time-- talking about feelings!

I type this only to fill in every blank:

Hearing the greatest singer/accordionist playing on the pedestrian only street of Oaxaca, Mexico, who was a ten year old girl who could be Howlin Wolf if she wanted. Drinking raw milk given to me after I stopped at a house to ask directions while hiking in Ecuador, eating a duck heart and realizing that it is the noblest of all beasts and finally getting a starter of sourdough bread to bubble and gurgle in all of its lacto-fermentational beauty, complexity and glory.
These are in no way amazing to anyone else.
