ABOUT ME
I was raised on an organic produce farm in Western Montana, and believe that to be my quintessential fun fact. I had a great back to earth/living in a tipi/small town west/hippy childhood, which i promptly abandoned for New York City after high school.
I lived in NYC for seven years (not quite a New Yorker), two as an Americorps volunteer and five as a student of architecture and philosophy at the New School/bartender.
Recently, I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship which allowed me to peruse an independent art/research project for a year in German. I am now living in Dresden and hoping to stay in Germany for a least another year.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Since leaving the US I haven't been able to host, so now I'm just taking up couch space!
Interests
I enjoy bike rides, talking, and talking about bike rides.
Mostly though, I enjoy people. People who talk, people who make jokes, people who laugh at my mediocre ones, the whole lot.
- arts
- gardening
- traveling
- cycling
Music, Movies, and Books
I like most types of music, but for a casual car ride/small example:
Justin Timberlake - Strawberry Bubblegum
The Band - The Weight
Mos Def - Brooklyn
Deerhunter - Helicopter
Erykah Badu - Honey
James Blake - Limit to Your Love
Books are really great. I studied philosophy, but am also a sucker for a story, so usually bounce between novels and theoretical writing, recently
Spinoza - The Ethics
Henry James - Wings of a Dove
(And since working to improve my German:
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Nietzsche
Der Prozess - Franz Kafka)
Again, sucker for a story. Off the top of my head, Movies:
City of God
Antonioni
Won-Kar wai
Sergio Leone
etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Skating on a frozen lake near where I grew up in Western Montana. Snow was lightly falling and you could skate for miles. The mountain tops surrounding the lake pierced the bottom of the clouds as it began to get dark. The isolation and the snow combined to form the most pressing silence imaginable. The silence was a truly awe-inspiring sound with more depth and vastness then anything I have ever experienced.
Teach, Learn, Share
I grew up on an organic farm, so I have a fair ammout of practical knowledge of gardening, building, and fixing things. I can definitely work a hammer.
I spend most of my time drawing, so I'd like to think I can also work a pen.
I'm always happy to learn more about both and maybe teach something in the process.
