About Me

A quick question for hosts to consider before opening up their personal space for a traveler who has serious wanderlust.

What do you think, hosting someone like myself...is like? Not quite sure? I’ll tell you...it’s like finding an extra chicken nugget in your Maccies...IMAO!!!

I, like most humans, thirst for something exotic and crave a long-term adventure. I sometimes look at myself as the fictional children’s character Peter Pan, who doesn't age and wishes to play forever, and even dying is an existing experience.

I glib on motorbikes, buses, cars, and by foot, through forests, trails, dirt roads, and cattle farms for I always need to get out. I need people. I need to not know where I’ll be tomorrow.

At the moment, I’m teaching ESL at an English language Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More importantly, I’ve been teaching English as a second language for the past six years, two in China where I taught kindergarteners and three in Turkey, but this time, I was teaching 3rd and 4th graders. Rolf Potts, an American travel writer takes the view that...

“Money, of course, is still needed to survive, but time is what you need to live. So, save what little money you possess to meet basic survival requirements, but spend your time lavishly in order to create the life values that make the fire worth the candle. Dig?” - Rolf Potts

Music, Movies, and Books

Music has been an important part of my life. Although, I'm particular about what I will put to my ear. I cannot think of a genre of music that's bad.

My favorite movies are mainly foreign and documentary films. The best international films I've every seen were "Sin Nombre" and "Una noche". The most interesting documentary I've ever seen was "Stolen Seas" which talks about modern day piracy.

My favorite essays are Henry David Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience." Favorite quote from Thoreau is "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." Next, James Baldwin's "Letter from a Region in my Mind." My favorite books are Richard Bernstein's "Fragile Glory": A Portrait of France and the French", Ernest Hemingway's "A moveable feast", and Jonathan Raban's "Coasting." I do have several other books that I enjoy reading quite often. I'm always looking for new literature to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I've ever done was backpack through the Middle East for an entire five months. That trip was the most important journey of my life. I'm blessed to have had the opportunity to visit these wonderful Middle Eastern countries.

First, Cairo, Alexandria, and Luxor, Egypt. Next, Amman and Petra, Jordan. Then, Beirut, Baalbek, Damour, Jounieh, Tyre and Byblos, Lebanon. After that, Damascus, Palmyra, and Aleppo, Syria. Next, Istanbul, Konya, Ephesus, and Cappadocia, Turkey. Finally, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel.
