About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spend all of my free time and money on seeing new places and people

ABOUT ME

I recently finished a PhD in Biology at the University of Pittsburgh and moved to the DC area for a research position at the Smithsonian Institution. I work in Plant Biology doing my dissertation on tropical forest plant community dynamics (an entire night's worth of conversation there). I live frugally with a goal of saving so I can travel as much as my schedule allows.

Love good beer, good people, good conversation, and good ole fashion fun having.

PHILOSOPHY

Only the good die young.

Many more thoughts here, but best for personal conversation

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Fortunately I get to travel a lot for my job, and I love to meet people and to get introduced to new places by locals. I'm definitely interested in hosting some surfers on my couch as well, but my schedule and traveling duties may hinder my availability.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only had good experiences

Interests

Huge film buff- I like to see good movies whenever possible. Love to have good discussions about good films. I'm interested in too many other things to talk about here.

  • fashion
  • beer
  • walking
  • movies
  • traveling
  • socializing
  • biology

Music, Movies, and Books

Love all of these things. Don't have a huge selection of movies- I prefer to go out and see. My most prized possession is my record vinyl player that my parents gave to me. Music I feel most connected to is classic rock and blues- I really don't listen to much of the stuff that comes out now- I'd prefer to spend a night at home with a good bottle of wine and play the old records on the turntable.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking into the tropical rainforest in Panama for the first time and seeing a tree that locals call the "Tree of Life" is something that I will never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think probably the most interesting area of teaching and learning that happens through couchsurfing is getting to meet people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds. Having the opportunity to be in a snapshot of life in someone's journey is great.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Panama, United States
