About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Making a Home

ABOUT ME

I'm an Alabama girl with a taste for travel. I read voraciously, write occasionally, and cook daily. I love to eavesdrop and people watch. I can be both social and reclusive. I have taught yoga and worked on a watermelon farm. I carry bananagrams with me at all times, and my spelling is atrocious. I can drive a manual transmission in San Francisco, name all seven dwarfs, make a mean bloody mary, recite Shakespeare sonnets, and dig a hatchback out of an arroyo in New Mexico with nothing but a tupperware, a yoga mat, a three ring binder, and some rocks.

PHILOSOPHY

Strive for happiness, but not at the expense of others.

Don't die in a way that, when read as a headline, would make people say, "stupid girl." -- my mother

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still learning Virginia, so I may not the best tour guide. Still, I'm happy to meet for coffee and share all I know. I hope to make up in enthusiasm what I lack in knowledge. I often work away, so I'm not always available to host, but am happy to try to accommodate!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I watched my old roommate host couchsurfers for the semester I lived with her in ABQ. We always had the most interesting, generous, and thoughtful people stay with us that it piqued my curiosity.

After driving with another CS-er, Tom Brown, from ABQ to SLC, I have officially been convinced that I need to join this community. Toute suite.

Interests

Language (especially of the signed variety), Photography, Cartwheels, Yoga, Sunshine, Music, Theater, Books, Board Games, Travel, Beach Cruisers.

I am currently merging my passions of sign language and music/theater by working with an amazing Deaf woman to research the Deaf community's access to performance arts. We've published a couple of articles on interpreting for live performances, and are working on a book about our research.
