ABOUT ME

I've always been a very busy, active person doing a million things. For 2.5 years I was living in Melbourne and travelling, working at a progressive politics radio station, at a University around indigenous education and in feminist health promotion (sex education and respectful relationships etc).

This year, I came back to Ireland, got a job in schools health promotion, bought and learned to drive a funky scooter and reconnected with my buddies and family. Now I'm going travelling for a month with my Australian lover and bring him back to Dublin for a while to enjoy the Irish weather. And maybe I will meet you.

Over the years, I've been involved with social justice campaigns. Currently involved with campaigning for better reproduction rights in Ireland (abortion etc, which is illegal here).

I like eating great (veggie) food, cycling my bike, reading newspapers, and spending time with good people having chats.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy would probably be to approach life in a way that cannot be reduced to a 'personal philosophy' soundbyte.

I'd probably also throw in something about: being open, prioritising the 'people' in things, recognising power (in all it's guises!)and challenging where it's abused, taking care of your mental health, taking care of people. Be free and liberated in your mind -if you can figure out what that is! (My guess so far? -It's not about buying things, and it shouldn't involve too many feelings of loneliness)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sleep on couches and floors. Invite friends and friends of friends to stay at mine. Give hosting info about my city. Encourage visitors to come along to whatever I'm doing that week.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots of experience talking to random people and hanging with strangers / new friends...does that count?

Been couchsurfing in Amsterdam, Australia ... and I often visit new friends in different places,or people I met travelling, and invite people to stay with me.

Music, Movies, and Books

um ... i hate trying to list things like this...I like all of these things and it's always good to try new ones. I'm often up for trying something unusual, but I know what I like and what I hate. That's so vague, it's annoying, sorry!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One? Pah! Since this is couchsurfing, I'll stick with travel stories, and try and make it sound as exotic as possible. In no particular order:

Jumping into a lake at night in Slovenia, before I knew how to swim
Cycle across Vietnam
Sunrise at Uluru
Mountain car-crash in East Timor
Gender Festival in Tanzania
Eco camp in the middle of Slovakia
5 dollar burlesque in New York
Salsa-esque dancing with random old guy in front of big crowds in Cuba
Listening to a ferry sing with burning eyes in Amsterdam
Living on a protest camp in the west of Ireland
Hummous in Jerusalem
International women's day celebrations in the Basque country
Saying bye to friends with something resembling spoken word in Melbourne

Teach, Learn, Share

Radio editing / making radio is the most practical skill I have.

I know how to facilitate groups and organise and deliver training, which is good for education and activism.

I'm really into reading and current affairs, so I know lots about certain things. I guess I can offer an enthusiasm to talk and listen (ok, I mean, have conversations) ?!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cuba, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
