About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discover new cultures! Our current mission is to move to our 5th country together. It is gonna be Holland, and we are excited to live in the Hague, Delft and Rotterdam area.

ABOUT ME

Being a couple from Iceland and Hungary, the fun and challenges of intercultural living are present - and very welcome! - in our everydays. Every now and then we seek out adventures to get a break from office jobs, like traveling and meeting people, trying food from all over the world, sharing great chats or just visiting a museum around the corner.
Spending our time in a meaningful way matters to us, and we make an effort to be environmentally friendly, cycle everywhere and sometimes up-cycle furniture, old clothes and fleah market grabs.

PHILOSOPHY

Just Be. Apart from simply existing, we also like to be genuine and mindful.

The Icelandic "Þetta reddast", roughly meaning "it's gonna work itself out".
We like to go with the flow, still we do like to organise ourselves to avoid too much stress. We must have learnt this from relocating 5+ times to different countries and continents.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couch Surfing is a way for us to meet very cool people who we like to learn from and hang with.

We are regulars at the Tuesday evening CS meetings in Salzburg, sometimes we host people and sometimes we stay with people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have enjoyed home hospitality in South Africa, Russia and all over Europe and met some great people along the way.

Landing in Johannesburg after a 14hr redeye flight and being picked up at the airport and taken to a 10AM barbecue w. beer by total strangers (who soon became friends) was a quite surreal experience.

We had a great guy, Antonio from Italy, hitchhiking his way from Poland. He dropped in to the Tuesday CS round here in Salzburg and asked for a couch. We took him, it was a less than 10 hour experience, but we loved the spontaneity of this very positive experience.

Interests

Our shared interests are upcycling everything from furniture to clothes, we have done some good job at giving new life to old furniture, like building a laptop work desk from an old bed or shelves from a paravent. On weekends we wind down by spending five hours straight on exhibitions, or roaming fleah markets, maybe going for a concert or the like.
For longer breaks we go traveling, especially on trains, for many days in a row. We are curious to learning about how people live on this planet, and we spend quite some time in the great outdoors cycling, hiking or hopefully kayaking or horse riding in the near future, although extreme sports are not really our thing.

Einar likes to play chess and waterpolo, watch movies with preferably black humor or just dull jokes and drink beer. He is also a great producer of highly entertaining sarcastic comments.
Eszter enjoys yoga, meditation, creative writing, crafts and is into discussing philosophy, city planning and sustainability.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
Our big favorites are Nick Drake, Adam Freeland, Baggalútur, and many more, we love jazz, rock, and also classical. We do try and listen to everything for a while, although it varies how long we last :-)
Eszter likes contemporary music, singing in choirs and sometimes in the shower or while cooking when she is in a good mood.

BOOKS AND MOVIES
We love to chill watching movies on the sofa in the evenings, but can't really single out big favorites, and the same goes for books.
At least once a month we visit our local library, that is by the way a superb institution here in Salzburg and well worth a visit for its collection of books on arts and music, it's inspiring atmosphere and superb views over town from its panorama cafe. We both enjoy reading and travel with our e-readers rather than laptops.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visited 50+ countries and counting...

Lived in Pune, India for 3 years and lived just like any other middle class Indian in the area. It was a very meaningful experience and we learnt a lot about bridging cultural differences. We enjoyed traveling mostly overland (meaning slow, and often tedious, but unique) to many locations within India & Nepal during that time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Einar makes an amazing pizza from scratch, he even can make the dough fly in the air. We also like to make hummus, baba ganoush, käsespätzle, gnocchi, Hungarian gulyás and Indian food. If you like, we love to cook a dinner for or with you.
Eszter can teach you knitting, and will most likely attempt to engage you in a colorful discussion, posing unusual questions that dig well below the level of cliche conversations - of course, only if you want.

We are curious to experience what people in the world are into, how they live, what is good life for them and what we can learn from them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Engage in conversations, with international living occurring frequently in our talks.
We can and love to cook!
Share quirky local knowledge about places we have lived in or know well.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Austria, Hungary, Iceland, India
