About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Find out the number of freckles of the current world population...

ABOUT ME
So, do you know that myth about Hemmingway that he bet his friends that he could tell a whole story with a beginning, a middle and an end in only six words? After a little consideration, he is supposed to have written "For Sale. Baby Shoes. Never Worn." and collected the winnings. Now, whether that story is true and whether Hemmingway really wrote that is unconfirmed, but it definitely is a neat story, don't you think?

My point is that I don't have such a story. Would be really cool to let you know who I am in six words, but it just changes a lot and shifts around. But anyway. I find questions much more interesting than statements, so here, instead of six words, there's six questions for you; maybe they'll tell you something about me...

- Why is six afraid of seven?

- If you could have magic abilities or super powers, which would you choose, (which devil fruit would you eat)?

- Have you ever pictured Hitler doing snow angels or thought about whether or not Jesus was good in bed?

- When I tell you to think of a dog, do you see a picture in your minds eye; and if yes, how concrete/abstract is it?

- Why is it that words seem to lose their meaning at some point, if you just say them over and over again often enough?

- What is the least important thing in the world (and is it still once it has been referenced to answer this question)?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think that this is a great way to travel. I am rather selective both with surfing and with hosting and have been rewarded by meeting very amazing people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'd say it's an Indie-Rock-Punk-Alternative blend mostly, although there is the occasional metal or pop song in the mix. I really like Music that tells a story or captures a certain emotional state or has fascinating imagery or is very uniquely weird or is good to listen to at 2 AM while looking at the stars or good for running like hell...
As far as books are concerned, my taste is also quite diverse: I really started out reading with Harry Potter (and probably owe a good deal of my English language skills to those books btw) and I still like fantasy (Tolkien, Pratchett, Pullman, Patrick Rothfuss (!!!)). I also like all books that I have read by Jasper Fforde, Matt Ruff and Aiden Chambers. I am very interested in anything weird or intertextual or illustrated, be it children's/young adults books or mangas or graphic novels or the illustrated guide to semiotics. Ah, yeah and I like papers and books about language and linguistics, postmodern books, classics, books that tell a story in their own different way (same could be said about movies, I guess). I think Douglas Hofstadter should fit in about here too. A few years ago, I read Mark Danielewski's brilliant House of Leaves and have been really into experimental fiction since then. Recently, I really liked The Tragedy of Arthur, Nabokov's Pale Fire, The People of Paper, S., The Linguistics Wars and Duck, Death and the Tulip.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been picked up by two complete strangers on Leicester square when I had no place to spend the night, who invited me warmly into their home and with whom I had a brilliant evening - felt like the most amazing thing!
I've also, on occasion, ridden a unicycle with fire pedals...

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: circus skills (unicycling, a bit of juggling and clowning), linguistics, how to make marzipan roses, the differewnce between the ich and the ach sound in German and making pancakes!

I'd love to learn whatever you can teach me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

my standard offer is a home-cooked dinner or a cake; I'm not a chef or anything but I can hold my own in a kitchen ;)
also: Austrian chocolate, good conversations, a poem on a topic of your choosing and what I wrote right above
