About Me

CURRENT MISSION

There's A Whole World Out There....explore it!

ABOUT ME

I'm a British lawyer working in the fields of mental health, disability law, children's law, and refugee rights. I have just moved to San Francisco for a few months, as my boyfriend is working for a Bay-Area tech company. While I'm here I'm volunteering at the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, UC Hastings.

About me? I love to travel and I'm trying (badly) to learn French and Arabic. I've lived and worked all over. I enjoy the company of new and interesting people who enjoy sharing experiences and knowledge and can introduce me to knew and exciting things. I don't drive but I do bicycle (but not up mountains). I like to cook tasty vegetarian food (though I'm no longer actually vegetarian - a holiday in Mexico saw to that). I like to indie disco, dance to pounding electro music, and I enjoy cities and the sea.

That's a nutshell. If you want any more information just ask!

PHILOSOPHY

Try everything once (except nuclear weapons, mullet haircuts, and heroin)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted and surfed all over the world. When I can't host for whatever reason (friends won't allow it/cultural norms in particular country won't allow it/travel won't allow it) I always try to make myself available for coffee meetups and answering questions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Official CS experiences so far:

I had an amazing time CSing in southern California - with some lovely, lovely boys in San Diego and LA. They made my trip.

A year later I surfed from New Orleans to New York.

Through Couch Surfing in Egypt I met some absolutely wonderful life-long friends.

I've Couch Surfed with great people in Israel (ended up staying a month in one place) and in South Africa.

I've also met up with Couch Surfers in Palestine and Couch Surfed Sudan.

I've also had some folks stay with me - Americans, Germans, Dutch

As for the non-official, I have:

1. lived with a family in India for 2 months (my second family now!)
2. hitched a ride and nabbed a floor with gypsies in Kashmir, where I was given a harmonium lesson
3. lived in homestays in Kashmir
4. knocked on villagers doors and enjoying amazing hospitality whilst treking in Ladakh
5. taken in a wandering 21 year old Irishman who needed a place to stay so he could protest against climate change (he was an interesting one...)

Music: Radiohead, Bon Iver, The National, Yelle, Regina Spektor, Belle and Sebastian, 90s house, 90s britpop, dubstep remixes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the blues. I like to go to gigs, mostly smaller bands (cheaper!)

Recent favourites include Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murukami, The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, House of Spirits by Isabel Allende, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald, The Pregnant King by Devdutt Pattanick
