Chi sono

Peace Corps Volunteer, Indonesia, 2014-2016
Semester at Sea circumnavigator, Fall 2010

I'm a fun curious friendly Colorado native. I enjoy cooking, so if you host, I'd be glad to help in the kitchen. I also am a professional actor in my spare time so if you need some entertainment, I don't mind acting like a fool for a laugh. I have walked an interesting life so far. And I have come to the conclusion that the best way to spend my twenties is with an open mind, a receptive ear, a big heart, and full abandon.

The best CS review I received was from a former CS ambassador during my road trip in 2012. Unfortunately, because he is no longer on the CS website, his review no longer exists on my profile. Luckily, I cherished it enough to save it before it was deleted. Here goes:

"Charismatic, congenial, sensitive, inquisitive, sweet-natured, big-hearted, gracious, vivacious, giving, worldly, TREMENDOUSLY compassionate – these adjectives only begin to skim the surface of Erica Johnson. In fact, they really don't do her justice. After all, how does one accurately extol someone whose natural instinct is to openly welcome unique experiences and individuals without skepticism; immediately empathize with perfect strangers as if they were close relatives; and comfort and calm those in distress? These are rare qualities to find even in the most wise and well-grounded people, let alone a young woman currently in the midst of finding her own place in the world." ~ Justin Holt, Former CS Ambassador of Chicago

PHILOSOPHY

There are an infinite number of ways to think and live in this world and I love nothing more than the challenge of experiencing someone else's point of view and expanding my own. There are ideas, products and cultures I do not yet understand. So, I always aim to keep an open mind and expose myself to new formulas. This is why I act, This is why I travel, This is why I am a people person; I want to explore as much territory of the human condition as possible, consequently discovering uncharted territory within myself.

"Be curious, not judgmental."~Walt Whitman

"Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted."~John Lennon

"I'm curious about other people. That's the essence of my acting. I'm interested in what it would be like to be you."
~ Meryl Streep

‎"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget that errand."
-Woodrow Wilson

"Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we must go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death." ~Anais Nin, "Winter of Artifice"

All you touch and all you see,
Is all your life will ever be.
~ Pink Floyd, "Breathe"

"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children … to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better … to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived … this is to have succeeded!"
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

From April 1st-August 1st 2012, I surfed the CS wave all across North America. It was a wild ride. No wipeouts yet.

I also hosted during the Boulder Couch Crash of 2013. Also, a grand and lovely experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've used Couchsurfer in Kansas City, Chicago, Toronto, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Seattle, and Jackson on my cross-country road trip in the summer of 2012 (Among other stops where I stayed with friends of mine). All have been incredible experiences in their own way.

As a professional actor, my most recognized roles have been Puck in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and The Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz” (Yes, I got to fly, throw fire, and melt. It was a childhood dream come true). Other notable accomplishments include shaving my head while sailing across the equator, skydiving, hitchhiking, scuba diving, milking a cow, getting a play I wrote produced, eating baked Alaska IN Alaska, doing a successful headstand, circumnavigating the globe, and surviving the economy.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I know a thing or two about cooking, writing, and acting (including improv and basic interpersonal skills... that being said: people should listen more than speak, ask questions more than state opinions, and learn more than teach).

My next goal is to learn Indonesian. I am an English in Indonesia as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Any tips?

And, hey, if you have any ideas of good 9-5 careers where you can make a big difference, use my exceptional one-on-one interpersonal skills, and still have my nights free for theatrical rehearsals. Any and all ideas are welcome :-)
