About Me

I plan to travel and share my good fortune with others as I go, but at the moment I am bobbing back and forth between Hull and Manchester UK, working in graphic design, dreaming of sailing.

I love big cities, full of day and night adventures and many cultural influences, many types of buildings and hidden corners. If you would like to visit Manchester or Hull, both are good place for art/ music people. and are unique cities in the UK. I am happy for meeting visitors, although I have no actual couch to offer (life goals)

I tend to travel on short notice so far, and recently solo. I like getting lost/adventure/escape - I get called a 'space cadet' a lot. I am pretty laid back in general but I am practical and can usually work out how to survive. I tend not to expect much from people but enjoy being a part of groups where things like art, music, poetry, imaginative games and discussion groups are happening.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the style of exploration promoted by couchsurfing. I think it feeds back to a better life and culture at home, wherever that might be.

Music, Movies, and Books

Iain M. Banks, all his sci-fi books hold fantastic ideas that have shaped the way I look into the future, both the most hopeful and the darker scenarios of human culture on new frontiers
Recent favourite film - Bladerunner 2049
Old favourite - The Sphere - an alternate Alien film - lots of suspense, psychological thriller, and + Samuel L - check it!

I am overly influenced by science fiction, looking to re-balance my interests bit by bit

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to say really. For me, seeing Sperm whales and their calf was amazing because I really like them, and the mystery of their lives.

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied science before I went into the graphic design gig - I know quite a lot of biology, bit of chemistry and geology. I like to learn more to connect with the places I visit especially awesome landscapes.
I am also very imaginative and like to invent ideas and stories. I am a good bounce point for ideas either visual or written. I play dungeons and dragons.
I am so far immune to sea-sickness, I can't really teach that but I would make a good boat buddy and plan to get a Day Skipper sailing qualification soon so I have more to share. I need to learn to swim better and I'd like to learn to dive.
I would like to advance my German speaking skills, and communication skills across language barriers in general.
I like to spend time exploring on foot, camping would appeal to me more than sharing time at restaurants and bars, but not saying no to the restaurant and bars!
At the moment I am drawn to sailing and the sea, cargo boats, storm weather. If you have lived on a sailing boat I would love to hear your stories :)
