Don't let my chronological age fool you -- At 78 years old, I don't feel much different than I did at 58. My bike is my main form of transportation, I garden, hike, travel, live an active interesting life, and I don't intend to slow down any time soon.

I've lived in the charming college town of San Luis Obispo since 1980, with a 12-year break to try out living in Portland, Oregon. The weather and big city life didn't agree with me, and I've recently returned to my beloved SLO, where the sun shines most of the time. Being twelve miles from the Pacific Ocean is an added benefit.

I've always been fascinated by people and other cultures. I was married to a Turk for twelve years and have two half-Turkish offspring, one now living in Portugal and the other in Portland. Another daughter from a previous relationship lives in Connecticut, where I spend time every fall.

I worked at Cal Poly for 13 years and started a 4-bed hostel out of my home in 1993. Demand for affordable lodging in this college town, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, was intense. Before too long I was running a 25-bed hostel for international travelers of all ages. I retired after twenty years of being in the hostel biz and still wish I could turn the clock back and do it all over again. Running a hostel was more fun than should have been legal.

Love all kinds of music but especially latin jazz and music from the 1960's and 70's. I still like to boogie with the oldies, and I contra dance too.

Favorite movies? Baghdad Cafe, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, West Side Story, and so many more.

I'm not really fluent in Spanish but I'm better than beginner. I enjoy practicing with native speakers.

I have an extra bike and would enjoy taking a couch surfer on a joy ride to the beach.

If you were a guest in my home for a few days, you'd probably get a home-cooked meal or two. If I'm too busy to cook, Trader Joe's is just down the street. I love all kinds of ethnic food and my kitchen would be available if you feel like cooking.
