About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be young for as long as I possibly can

ABOUT ME

This is who I thought I was three years ago:

Brace yourself. I've never been institutionalized, but I may be one of the most eccentric people you will ever meet. I'm a second semester senior and I love to do most of the things normal teenagers love to do: watch movies, hang out with friends, shop and let my brain rot as I sit down for the occasional hour of The O.C. or Sex and the City. My obsessions include volunteering with the Red Cross, going to Starbucks (I will never step foot inside a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) and literary allusions. I don't read as much as I'd like to, but when I really enjoy a book, it's hard to shut me up. I wish Borders were closer to my house (even though the nearest one is five minutes away) and honestly, if I ever won the lottery, I would take all my money and invest it in books. I also have a tendency to be very passionate about what I read. Often, I have to remind myself that I'm not the characters in my books, or I get carried away. Sometimes I think I'm Jane Eyre, always struggling to define myself in terms of ambiguous relationships, or Jay Gatsby, an idealist trapped in a cynical world. On the days when I have Holly Golightly's Mean Reds, I may tell you that I feel like Esther Greenwood or Hamlet and that I wish I had a room on the third floor with yellow wallpaper. Fortunately for you, those days are few and far between. Most of the time, I feel like a cast member from a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical who only wants to sing about how beautiful and perfect life is.

This is what one of my best friends thought I was two years ago:

i'm hyper sensitive, i love literary allusions, i'm easily corruptable, i befriend the unhygenic and the super hygenic, when i wake up i sound and look like a lost puppy with a very squeaky voice, hollister clothes me, i do not have a valley girl accent, and by do not i mean do, i mumble and giggle, i whine...

PHILOSOPHY

pourquoi pas?

actually, i wish that were my personal philosophy. to be honest, i haven't given the topic much thought since i was 13 and super emo. i'm trying to collect awesome life experiences... i want enough material to be able to write ridiculous memoirs someday. i think wwjd is an awesome way to think about life, although i'm pretty much an agnostic these days. i don't know, most days i'm just happy to be alive. i'm trying not to get too caught up in my head; i figure good intentions are still worth something, and if they pave my way to hell, then shit, at least i felt good about myself on the way down.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

there's a mountain in anhui, china, that i've hiked up three times in my life. the first was with my mom and my brother; i was 16, afraid of heights and literally crawled half the time. the second time i went, i was dumb enough to agree to a 13 hour hike. the third time, there were absolutely no tears. that was probably my greatest achievement. ever. no rain on my face at all. awesome.
