About Me
It's hard to write "about me" without sounding crazy!
A year ago I quit my job in accounting because I didn't know whether that was the work I wanted to be doing. I worked in a restaurant for 3 months and got really fit carrying heavy plates up and down lots of stairs. Then I started travelling through the United States, Argentina, and Uruguay, and I'm going back to the United States again before heading home to Australia.
I love to dance, cook, listen to music and to learn about people.
I have discovered during these travels that I really love the following:
- hammocks
- trees
- mountains
- coconuts. Coconut oil, coconut flesh, coconut milk, dessicated coconut, pretty much anything coconut.
- all furred, feathered or scaled animals. insects and crustaceans I find less relatable.
- drinking yerba mate
- climbing (if I don't get to a gym, a rock or find inviting trees often enough, the Argentinian barred windows and fortress style fences start to look like boulder problems!)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've been lucky enough to befriend locals the whole way through these travels, and this has allowed me to experience the Argentinian and Uruguayan culture in a way I could never have hoped for otherwise.
Music, Movies, and Books
I love all music and there is always a song playing in my head.
I have bought 3 cane flutes in Argentina and Uruguay and am trying to learn as many songs as I can on them!
Movies - I love musicals but will watch pretty much anything, as long as it's not too scary. I still haven't watched Finding Dory yet because I feel so sad for her getting lost!
Books - Douglas Adams, Chuck Palahnuik, Mary Roach and Paulo Coehlo are my favourite authors. All kind of different from each other and yet somehow I love them all!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
On one bus ride in Argentina, the steward tipped me 3 alfajores and a 2 peso note. I have no idea why.
I spent 4 weeks working on a vegan permaculture farm, preparing soil for planting, driving a tractor and using a pitchfork without any hint of irony. I even got to evict pesky livestock and send it back to the neighbour's farm!
I spent 3 days trying to learn how to juggle in a geodesic dome painted like a mushroom. Believe it or not, no drugs involved!
I stayed with one of the candombe dancers in the Montevideo carnaval. I
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to cook vegetarian and vegan food.
I also love talking about languages and I'm fascinated by accents. I'm trying to learn Spanish but it's hard and scary. I love sharing what I know about the English language.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I love to cook nutritious vegetarian food with local ingredients.
I also bake a good cake.
I also have an excellent "damper" recipe - it's a traditional Australian bread that only takes 45 minutes.
