Overview
About Me
I'm Elena, from Rome, I've just finished college and I'm planning to study either painting or graphics/illustration at the Academy of fine arts here, and then possibly continue my studies abroad.
I'm 18 and in search for out-of-my-comfort-zone experiences, to meet new people in my own city and around the world and grow thanks to new, powerful connections!
This summer will be my first CS experience! I'm traveling around Europe with my friend Olimpia.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The only way to dive deeply inside the culture of a country you're visiting is meeting the locals and learning from them not as strangers, but as friends!

Music, Movies, and Books
Ethnic music (African, Indian, Arabian), jazz, rock, electronic music (like Jon Hopkins, four Tet, floating points), techno/psy-trance, classical (Ravel, Debussy, Liszt, Chopin), indie/alternative...
I started taking music lessons last year, I've learned to play the darbuka, a middle eastern drum, and I've studied electronic music production but I only know basic stuff and I've never performed. I also sometimes play the guitar and the ukulele.
Classical novels, short stories, poetry, essays, philosophy. Can't say I have a favourite genre, but I appreciate everything that is sincere, meaningful and striking rather than just entertaining. Some of the authors I like most are David Foster Wallace, Simone de Beauvoir, Jose Saramago, Dino Buzzati, Iosif Brodskij, Virginia Woolf, Milan Kundera, Charles Baudelaire, Herman Hesse...
Movies by Fellini, Pasolini, Antonioni, Kubrick, Lars Von Trier, Jodorowsky, David Lynch, Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, Miyazaki...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My trip to Ethiopia was probably the best and most profound experience I've ever had. But I'm sure many more will come!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach some Italian and talk about my country's immense culture and history; if I bring a music instrument with me I can share all I know! I'm open to conversations about literally everything, from eastern spirituality to politics, from Greek philosophy to the wonderful world of Netflix.
I've studied Greek and Latin literature in high school so I could tell you about the classical roots of most European culture: trust me, it's much more interesting than it seems. I can tell you when the very first sci-fi novel was written!
I'm willing to know about foreign traditions, culture, artistic heritage and languages that I've never been taught in school
What I Can Share with Hosts
Italian-style warmth and affability :) could cook whenever it's needed and offer delicious italian coffee! I love to share and listen to experiences and stories and learn about the culture of whoever is with me
Always keen to walking and hanging out and help out whenever I can.
Also I have very nice curls
