About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Having my first amazing couchsurfing experience! :-)
ABOUT ME
I am a positive, sociable and empathic person. I love listening to people's stories and telling mine. I especially enjoy deep conversations, better if accompanied by good food, music and wine. Being Italian, I love cooking, and I especially like surprising my friends by sharing my grandma's recipes with them - trust me, you won't regret having me over to cook a genuine italian meal for you. :-)
It goes without saying that I enjoy traveling, but the thing I enjoy the most about it is really to find the hidden places, the forgotten cafés, the wonderful old shop that everyone passes by without noticing. I love the smell of old stuff and of vinyl stores. I especially like traveling alone because it gives me the chance to meet local people, which I find wonderful in order to discover the secret corners of cities and what they mean to the people who live there.
PHILOSOPHY
"May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay
Forever young"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I both surf and host. I can host couchsurfers in Verona during the summer or in the Oxford during the rest of the year. I travel quite a lot though, so do contact me in advance if you want to be sure to have a couch!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had wonderful experiences both hosting and surfing. I've met some people and been in some places I'll never forget. Thank you CS!
Interests
I really enjoy academic research and I am working towards an academic career in the field of socio-legal studies. Having studied in both Italy and the Netherlands, I am now starting a PhD at the University of Oxford. I am particularly interested in transitional justice and post-conflict reconciliation. I am doing research on the protection of children's rights during transitional justice processes.
This interest came from several volunteering experiences in Africa (Kenya, Tanzania) and the Middle East (Israel and the Palestinian Territories). These experiences truly changed my life and my way of looking at the world. I found myself sharing deep connections with people from completely different cultures, which has taught me about the value of diversity and inter-cultural communication.
I also have an interest for journalism and film-making and a commitment to help my country to overcome its problems. I am currently working on a documentary on the anti-mafia struggle in Sicily.
I love dancing tango and going to salons and I enjoy ballroom dancing more generally. If salons have live music, well, that's heaven.
