About Me

Me and my travelling and life partner Adolph are in the beginning of our lifelong journey through the world. Adolph is from South Africa, we met in Germany while doing a Master programme. Now we continue our study on a PhD level in Religious Studies, so are not bound to one place, and wish to learn and experience new things. Our daughter Lana was born last summer (2017), so she is our new cheerful & exciting traveling partner.
We gladly use opportunities of "academic tourism" - attending workshops, conferences and just visiting Universities. We love travelling together and learning about cultures, local traditions and foods.
We made a two-month field research in Ethiopia in 2013, and since then we continue learning from people all around the world together.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because of the belief, that you learn the most important things through exchange and communication and the idea that travelling without meeting local people is about past and not present.

Excited about alternative and community living.

You can find us on Workaway as well - http://www.workaway.info/workawayerprofile.html?w=Adolph

Interests

I am writing my thesis on religion and coping in radiation contaminated areas. Adolph focuses on tobacco pipe smoking as religious practice.

We both enjoy cooking and baking very much, Adolph plays saxophone, flute, guitar and a little bit of piano, he also sings and recently started to learn balalaika. He is interested in learning and teaching languages.

I spend my free time doing stitching, you can look at my works at http://welcomeembroidery.wordpress.com/. I also used to work as a Religious Studies teacher for the high school, so I can tell you about religious traditions and iconography.

Adolph worked with horses and volunteered at a veterinarian for a while in South Africa. He worked for St. Peters Child Care with kids who have HIV/AIDs and learning problems. Also he is a great fan of coffee making, so he worked as a barista in a restaurant.

Music, Movies, and Books

We enjoy good humour in books, movies and series. Adolph likes classical music and jazz. I enjoy anthropological documentaries and old-fashioned films/series of BBC. We both enjoy watching again movies and series we grew up on - like Indiana Jones, Stargate, Back to the Future, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We climbed Table Mountain (Cape Town), travelled by the local buses to Lalibela (Ethiopia) and had a four days journey on a horse back to the Bale Mountains (Ethiopia).

We tried to teach llamas in Germany how to jump in a mini-van.

We made a wedding ring from a golden tooth - fascinating story ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

As I said, Adolph plays a number of musical instruments and would love to learn more, teach and share. I can show you how to make cross stitching and blackwork embroidery.

We love to talk and discuss things)

What I Can Share with Hosts

We would like to cook or bake together with you, play music and chat.

We like very much Workaway project, so we do not mind to help with general maintenance, cooking, shopping etc when we travel and it would be great if you will do the same while staying with us.
