Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a part Italian, part British, and I am in the process of changing careers, so I'm trying to save as much as possible, but, having spent the last ten years in three different countries, I am passionate about connecting with people around the world and learning new things, so this seems like the perfect combination of necessity and curiosity!
At the moment I can’t host anyone, because the terms of my rental agreement do not allow me to do so, but I am a grateful person, so I always remember those who have been kind to them, and do not rest until I can repay the kindness shown to me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My experiences with Couchsurfing have been mixed: some were good, I learnt a great deal from my hosts and I gained a great deal in terms of spiritual richness, whereas others not so much, as some people asked me for money, others expected me to fill their fridges or treat them to a restaurant meal, and others were incredibly rude, which made me realize that there are a few people who see hosting as a kind of power move, a scapegoat for their frustrated lives.
In Italy we have a saying: « Patti chiari, amicizia lunga ». It literally means that clear understandings produce long-lasting friendships, but it is commonly used as a way of invoking transparency in order to guarantee smooth relationships, whatever the latter may be.
I will gladly cook or buy a drink for anyone, and I love hanging out with new people, but I do not enjoy being bullied. I will not give you money, nor will I do your whole shopping for you. I will gladly buy you a meal out if I can afford it at the time of hosting, as I have done before, but, like I just wrote, I can’t always afford to do so, because I am a budding freelancer, and each new month is different from the previous one, for better or worse. If I can’t, I will expect no judgment whatsoever from you. I will happily hang out with you, but not if I am to be treated as a punching bag for your life’s dissatisfactions. If you do not wish to hang out with me, I will happily respect your privacy instead.
If you think my demands are reasonable, we are going to be the best of friends!
I am respectful, independent, flexible, gregarious, adventurous, and, last but definitely not least, clean.
I love to laugh, and I can’t wait to share some laughs with you!
