Hi!
I'm a Welsh girl in my early 30's, currently living in Vancouver, BC. And I love it here! So much beautiful wilderness to explore!
When I'm not working as a Geomorphologist, I'm usually found roaming the mountains, either on foot, snowboard of a mountain bike. Living on the North Shore, it's actually mainly a bike these days.
I absolutely love to travel and generally choose my destinations based on my interest in glaciated and mountainous environments. In particular, I've spent a lot of time in Norway, Svalbard, Iceland, Nepal Himalayas and Western Canada. Alaska is next on my list and, now that I'm out of work for a bit, I have a great opportunity to visit this summer.

I'm generally pretty sociable and keen to chat with new people - but don't worry I know where to draw the line and allow personal space!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've previously heard of Couchsurfing but hadn't spoken to anyone in great depth over it, until recently. I've now heard such great reviews of how you're welcomed into homes and are given a truly local insight into your destination.
I usually camp or stay in hostels, and will do occasionally during my time in Alaska, but that only exposes me to other travelers who are as new to the area as myself. So couchsurfing just seems like the best way to get to know an area as it really is, with genuine people who are just keen to help a fellow human and share their local experiences.

If I enjoy my experiences with couchsurfing in Alaska, which I' sure I will, it's something I'd like to offer in my own home in future.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock music mainly! I love old stuff e.g Hendrix, Zeppelin, etc. More recent artists - Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes.

Mainly comedy movies - lighthearted and silly stuff. Also loving Marvel and DC movies and really looking forward to Suicide Squad's release.

TV - got instantly hooked on Netflix' new Stranger Things this week! SO GOOD!

Books. Hmmm... I don't read so much outside of work. But I guess when I do, I go for science papers or blogs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked up to 5550m elevation in the Himalayas. It was beautiful but did not feel good!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to just share my personality with my hosts and hopefully meet new friends. Maybe teach them a little Welsh!
I'd like to learn a little about their local lives and how different that is to my life in North Vancouver. I'd also love to go fishing, or hiking or whatever, IF that's something my hosts would like to share with me. Or hopefully just a warm dry place to sleep, with some advice on how to get around the area and what to see would also be just great.
