About Me

Hi guys!

I'm a teacher with a thirst for adventure. I love travelling and meeting new people.

Currently, I teach two subjects. English in a high school and science in many different schools. I'm a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) instructor at the world's first underground park, the Lowline. Here's some more info: thelowline.org

I also teach STEM subjects all over New York in underserved communities.

I'm also, a writer. Here is a personal story I wrote for the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/25/opinion/reddit-college-sat-tutor.html?action=click&contentCollection=opinion&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=1&pgtype=collection&_r=0

As a hobby, I perform personal stories onstage in front of a live audience.
Here's a taste of what I do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebsIy4yWeHc

It's part comedy, part memoir, mostly fun stuff. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing combines my two loves: people and places. I love meeting new people and I love travelling to new places.
Every person and place has a story and I want to listen to each one.

As someone who is fortunate enough to live in New York, I am able to be a tour guide. Show you around the many ethnic enclaves this city has to offer. We're so much more than Times Square or the Empire State Building. ;)

Interests

Getting lost, reading, hiking, biking, drinking, writing.

At the risk of sounding cliche, humanity in general interest me. We all have awesome and different and unique points of view.

We all have stories. Tell me yours.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite film is probably the Humphrey Bogart noir masterpiece The Maultese Falcon.

Favorite book? I don't know. Currently in middle of 3 books:
Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything,
Roxane Gay's Bad Feminist,
Kent Russel's I Am Sorry to Think I Have Raised a Timid Son.

But that's this week.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I picked up and made a last second trip to Burning Man. The fest started Sunday. On Tuesday morning I decided I wanted to attend. 18 hours later, after booking a flight and buying a ticket to Nevada, I landed there that evening.

Last second spontaneity is the best!

I went onstage in front of 350 people and told a very personal story. It was at a Moth storyslam.

After freaking out that first time, I returned. And did it again.
Failed for over a year. My stories weren't cohesive. They weren't funny. No one understood me.

But after a year, something clicked. Things started working out. A new hobby was born.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can be a good listener. I'm emphatic and have broad shoulders to cry on. I also have big ears to listen.

I'm a GREAT drinking buddy.

I can share with you how to tell a good story. I even teach a storytelling class here in New York!

Visitors of NYC: I can show you around the city and show you historic sites. The city has a fascinating cultural history.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and help around the house. I actually find cleaning the dishes relaxing!

I am also a nanny part-time, so I would happily take care of your children.

Also, I am happy to bring gifts from the big city of New York!

Countries I’ve Visited
