Overview
About Me
I'm a vegan and environmentalist, and an aspiring minimalist. I love taking my dog to Prospect Park, playing guitar, listening to rock music, and I like history.
I am honest, transparent, independent-thinking, and principled. The older I get, the less I can tolerate the "finer things" in life.
Ever since I was little, I've found myself almost never liking things that were really popular. If most people are doing something, I will likely be trying to do the opposite.
My favorite things to do are sit on the beach or by a lake without many (or ideally, any) people around. This is tied with leaving nyc and looking up at the stars on a clear night.
I intend to spend a lot of time travelling in the near future.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm going to be doing a good amount of travelling on my own, partially with the motive of investigating where I'd like to move so I'd like to experience what the day to day life in certain places is.
Sharing a home with someone that lives where I'm considering living seems like a good way to do that.
I'm also open to the idea of reciprocating and having a roomate for a couple days at a time

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Kurt Vonnegut and Noam Chomsky are my favorites. It's cliche, but 1984 resonated with me, I read it recently and the undeniable parallels to our life in the US are deeply troubling. I also really like history books, particularly about WWII and Native Americans.
Music: Neil Young is my favorite, Eric Clapton, Justin Townes Earle, Sparklehorse, Grandaddy, The Eels, Jackson Browne, Zeppelin (although haven't listed to much since high school), Wilco, Bob Marley, Velvet Underground, Tom Petty, Smashing Pumpkins, Chili Peppers.
I've been falling asleep to Sun Kil Moon for the last couple months and am seeking an alternative to mix things up, but can't find anything that's quite as suitable.
Movies: I primarily watch documentaries, but I liked Barney's Version, The Departed, The Guard, In Bruges, almost any Wes Anderson or Stanley Kubrick movie. Few things top Daniel Day Lewis portraying various maniacs (There Will Be Blood is probably my favorite of his).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I volunteered for a few months on the Bernie Sanders campaign including travelling to a few other states.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you visit NY, I'd be happy to take you to Prospect Park with my dog and/or recommend or take you to some of my favorite restaurants.
