About Me

Hi, I'm a Brazilian biologist with a graduate degree in genetics from Cambridge University, UK. As my supervisor used to say, I have "quite an online presence". I'm known as a science enthusiast and opinion machine on Brazilian social networks, and also as pro-LGBT, albeit a critical one, and humanist. Being a public person of sorts, you can trust me to be who I claim to be. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I found out travelling alone is much more fun than I could possibly imagine.

Interests

Biology (particularly evolution, genetics and entomology), philosophy (particularly ethics and the philosophy of science), politically incorrect humour (not too crass, I'm talking about Seth MacFarlane, Mad TV, South Park), etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: from classical (Dvorak) to pop (Jamiroquai?) and even heavy metal (Blind Guardian).
Movies: I've got tons to watch, but I really liked Little Miss Sunshine, Pride, 12 years a slave, but on my TV I mostly watch some funny cartoon like American Dad, South Park and Futurama.
Books: The one I find influenced me the most was Bertrand Russell's autobiography. I read philosophy and I'm much into debating ideas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made a YouTube video once, in reply to a homophobic pastor who went on TV in Brazil and claimed gay people choose to be gay or are abused into being so. I used evidence from genetics and neuroscience. The video has now more than 1.7 million views.

Teach, Learn, Share

No sure what to say here. Did you know some bacteria can turn male insect embryos into females?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories about what I've been doing lately in science, humanism, activism. I'm generally a good sport to talk about anything really.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, United Kingdom
