ABOUT ME

I am an intuitive person, and I often make choices based on that. But I usually take my time when making a decision or forming an opinion regarding other people. Too much rationalizing leaves me cold...I prefer emotions.
I am quite imaginative and at times moody. I love to mix with all sorts of people and find that social activities are an essential ingredient in my life.
I have a retentive memory, particularly for emotionally laden events. I love making good memories, since I often fondly recall events and times spent with friends.
I am loyal and a dependable friend, once my friendship has been earned. I am also very protective of the people and things I care about.
I have a broad outlook on life, seeing the big picture, rather than minute details.I am not prejudiced and rarely accept others' social biases. Instead, I evaluate people on the basis of gut feeling and actual actions.
I am also curious by nature. I like learning and experiencing new things. I am enthusiastic about new projects and become really focused on them, but I sometimes lose steam if something else catches my attention.
I dislike distractions when trying to focus on work, and confrontations and arguments in general.
On the down side, I tend to take things too seriously and be too focused. I sometimes come off as standoffish. I'm also tenacious, which, in my view, is another word for stubborn. :P

PHILOSOPHY

There is a saying in Romanian: "Omul cat traieste invata" - translated by "Live and learn". I'm a firm believer that as long as we live we continue to learn. There is book learning as well as experiential learning. I'm hoping that the CS experience will teach me about other cultures. I love reading about things that interest me and there are many things that spark my interest.

Interessen

I love reading, dancing and horseback riding, as well as rollerblading and ice-skating. I enjoy decorating objects using the decoupage technique. I read both fiction and non-fiction as well as fantasy. I like classical music (used to play it, too) and opera, as well as rock and I enjoy going to concerts. I also love animals and martial arts. Philosophy, psychology and anthropology are also among my interests since they all show how the human mind works.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

The movies I prefer form quite a mish-mash:
Shawshank Redemption, Swordfish, The Three Colors Trilogy, Life is Beautiful, The Others, Goodbye Lenin, Voces inocentes, The Usual Suspects, From Paris With Love, Snow Cake, Freedom Writers, Avatar.
Most of these films have inspired me in some way, from others I have learned something. I enjoy watching a comedy,or an action-filled film occasionally, but I usually don't feel I'm left with anything afterwards.

I occasionally enjoy a few TV series:
Spartacus, Rome, Caprica, Battlestar Galactica, Bones, Dr. House, Gilmore Girls, Glee, Grey's Anatomy, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Into the West, Game of Thrones.

Some of my favourite bands/singers/composers:
Caro Emerald, Bitter:Sweet, Regina Spektor, Ray Charles, Pink, Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus. The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, Shakira, Adele, Christina Aguilera, Louis Armstrong; Astor Piazzola, Carl Orff, Vivaldi, Rimsky Korsakov, Tchaikovski, Antonin Dvorak, Isaac Albeniz, Verdi.

Books I find myself hard-pressed to put down once I start:
Fiction - Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Picture of Dorian Gray, Lolita, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Collector, Of Mice and Men, Reading Lolita in Tehran, Beloved.
Non-fiction: Superfreakonomics, Tipping Point...
This is a list that could easily go on and on and on...you catch the drift...

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Helping my two dogs - Aisha and Faery - give birth to litters of 5 and 7 puppies, respectively. In one night! Afterwards, taking care of the puppies and the mommas (14 dogs total), until I found new owners for the last two of the litter, six months later.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Since CouchSurfing can be a tool for learning and teaching, I'd be happy to learn about the countries and peoples of anyone visiting Bucharest. I can teach you how to play the oboe, and the basics of the languages I speak. I am happy to improve my knowledge of the languages I do speak and to learn the basics of others. I'm ready to teach or to learn various types of dances as well as various typical dishes. I can teach others the basics of decoupage, for decorating objects or handmade presents.
