About Me
Hello Couchsurfing!
Elias:
My passions are mainly focused on permaculture and sustainable agriculture currently. I have been lucky enough to work in the field as a permaculture designer for part of my working life along with it taking up a lot of my free time. I love to design and grow food in a sustainable way and take care of nature as it takes care of us!
I also have worked for a large part of my life in hospitality, specifically managing cocktail and wine bars, restaurants, a distillery and music venues. I have learnt a lot about the food and beverage industry through that time and that is what I will be focusing on while living in The Netherlands.
I love to play music (guitar) and sing, listen to all kinds of music. Playing sport (mainly tennis at the moment due to injuries, but love football).
Mostly I just love a meaningful chat with good company.
Tiarne:
My interests involve Art, cooking, travelling, Herbal and Natural Medicine, and sustainable food production to name a few. I love literally everything creative and am always interested to learn new creative skills and to share my own. I enjoy exploring new places and meeting new people and learning as much as I can from them and their own unique experience of this weird and wonderful life. For work I do some hospitality and child care, but am open to all avenues that align with my beliefs and values. I am currently studying Permaculture design and hope to begin studying Chinese Herbal Medicine in Amsterdam in the near future.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My partner Tiarne and I are moving to The Netherlands and are reaching out on couchsurfing to meet as many different people as possible. We hope to learn about the Dutch culture and see the area through locals eyes. We are relocating permanently and will be working in Amsterdam and living in Leiden from November, before that we want to make new friends and build a great network of people that we hopefully keep throughout our lives. We love to learn from others as everyone has a unique story and point of view. We come with open hearts and minds.

Music, Movies, and Books
Elias:
Music - good music is good music, no matter the genre. I listen to mostly funk, soul and rock.
Movies - classics like Tarantino, Spielberg etc and new obscure movies (Everything Everywhere all at Once was one I watched recently)
Books - Biographies and factual books mostly (Dark Emu I read last - explains the technology of the First Nations people in Australia)
Tiarne:
Music: I appreciate good music when I hear it and am open to pretty much every genre. A few favorites are Blues and Funk.
Movies: I really appreciate movies created by Baz Lurhman, so anything weird, wild, colorful and creative.
Books: I enjoy factual reads while also enjoying the magic of fiction and being transported into a reality created by your imagination.
A book I am reading at the moment called Braiding Sweetgrass is one I would recommend everyone read at least once in their lives
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Elias:
Built a productive food forest specialising in native Australian plants.
Tiarne:
Travelling and wild camping in the Ionian islands
Teach, Learn, Share
Elias:
Teach - I can teach permaculture design, food production, guitar, massage techniques, my knowledge of physiology, nutrition and exercise.
Learn - I would love to learn Dutch and/or German, and any other skills you have to share!
Share - Stories, ideas, laughs
Tiarne:
Teach: Drawing and painting skills. I always have art supplies with me to share and love nothing more than when people want to join in and create something.
Learn: Dutch language and culture. About different ways of life and peoples experience and understanding from it. And foraging! I would love to learn about local botany and edible plants
