About Me

Hello! I am 21 years old and intend to be inter-railing this summer so that I may be able to engage with the rich and diverse culture Europe has to offer, I'm especially looking forward to sampling the food and drink (I'm a vegetarian, but I do eat fish!)

So a bit about myself, I have lived in North Devon, England, most my life - although I was born in Essex - and was educated at home until I was fifteen years old; most of the time, home-study gifted me lots of freedom to spend visiting museums, going to gigs, exploring nature parks and reserves (such as the Eden project in Cornwall!), dancing at 'free parties' throughout the night, attending lectures, getting involved local voluntary projects, pursuing photography, engaging in political debate across the UK. I eventually decided to go to independent secondary-school, called 'The Small School' - famed for its ecological and creative diversity, after which I attended a local college and studied Chemistry, Sociology and Psychology.

I've lived in Brighton, East Sussex for the last three years, studying politics and sociology at the University of Brighton (I've recently graduated), interning at the Born Free Foundation (animal welfare organisation), working as a chef in a restaurant, trekking in the countryside, camping on the Downs, working with the Blindspot Think Tank (ecological research), visiting the European Parliament in Brussels, going to university socials (usually involves a pub and lots of beer!).

I'm going to be studying a MSc in Environmental Policy and Management at the University of Bristol in September, will be inter-railing this summer (hence my decision to join couch surfing!) from France through to Germany and potentially Switzerland.

I am currently learning German - I have a reasonable ability in the language so far - and intend to be fluent by the end of the year so that I can begin to read books in German; I'm also partially adept in Latin but through reading.

That's everything I can think of for now!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always wanted to do inter-railing around Europe for now, and I've also wanted to meet new people who would be happy to help me to understand the culture of the places I intend to visit; I have especially wanted to meet other students, either undergraduates or postgraduates, and go to pubs or bars, explore the city/town/area with their guidance and share ideas and have a generally fun time!

Interests

Well, In a very big nutshell! I am interested in photography, politics and philosophy, adventuring into forests or hiking up mountains, going to pubs, films, going to gigs, and traveling, watching live performance, and I guess spontaneous activities most of the time.

More specifically, I am incredibly interested in environmental issues - nuclear armament, energy, sustainable living, and acting in environmental organisations - especially because most of my life I have been emotionally attached to nature.

I love going out to pubs and restaurants, talking to new people and drinking in cheery environments.

I am also very interested in German and Existentialist Philosophy, the likes of Jean-Paul Sartre, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Immanuel Kant.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am really easy when it comes to music I enjoy a wide range of music, but most especially I like a bit of Ska, Reggae, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, and Dance music! I am, however, not a fan of commercial club music though

I like most films to be honest, my favourite ones are The Shawshank Redemption, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Beach.

In I really enjoy Jack Kerouac, Franz Kafka, and Emerson's literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm most proud of helping to organise a mass-event for the Born Free Foundation, which was designed to raise awareness for the improvement of welfare standards for Orca and Cetacean held in captivity, with a turnout of around 5,000 I got to meet some incredibly motivated people!

Teach, Learn, Share

I would be more than happy to speak to people about ecology, go out and have drinks, speak about politics or philosophy, or help out with gardening as I am well versed in the trade of gardening.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to go out and have a drink or meal with my host, share stories about myself and travels, and get to know them as well!

Also, when I have settled in Bristol, England, I would love to provide my host the opportunity to come and stay with me in Bristol, so as to repay their kindness for letting me stay at their place and help them to experience a new culture!
