About Me
Verifying and adding a photo soon!
I just graduated with a degree in mathematics and statistics. I'm going to do a PhD in mathematics, but first I'm taking some time off. This August I'm headed to Germany for a couple metal festivals. I'm excited for new experiences and new friends!
Despite the metal music, I'm pretty quiet and clean. I don't smoke, and I don't drink much---even then I expect all of my drinking to be reserved for festivals. I'm tidy and don't take up much space. I clean up after myself. I'm truly grateful for my hosts' hospitality and try to be respectful as possible!
Language note: Americans would call my German fluent, and Germans would call it good. I can follow directions, watch TV, hold conversations, and even land the occasional joke. Staying with someone who knows little English or prefers German is just fine!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
----2018----
I'm finally headed back to Germany in August this year! I only wish I could stay longer. I'm hitting up a couple metal festivals and am looking for places to stay in between. I will update with flights soon, but here's my tentative schedule...
*July ??? - July 31: Arrive in Germany whenever flights are cheapest, visit friends in Munich or Stuttgart (host needed nights of July 29 and 30)
July 31 - August 1: Metal Train from Stuttgart or Munich to Wacken
August 1 - August 5: Wacken Open Air
*August 5 - August 7: host needed in Eastern/Southern Germany (Munich, Leipzig), Frankfurt, or Prague
August 7 - August 12: Brutal Assault (Czech Republic)
*August 12 - August 16: host needed pretty much anywhere--I haven't been to Heidelberg or Bremen yet
August 16 - August 19: Barther Metal Open Air
*August 19 - August ???: leave Germany whenever flights are cheapest, may need host
While being hosted I will need a shower and somewhere to hang clothes to dry after I wash them since I expect to be pretty dirty coming from festivals. I'd also love to have access to a kitchen so I can cook real food after several days of camping. Access to your home during the day (whether you are home or at work) is desired. I'll probably mostly be sleeping in or reading. If I have any extra energy, I'd love to go for a hike.
I always offer to cook for my hosts! I'm great at käsespätzle (my mother is schwäbisch) as well as any kind of sausage/steak with vegetables. I once cooked a pancake breakfast for a host who wanted some American cuisine. I was also previously vegetarian/vegan and can accommodate those restrictions easily. Let me know if you have any requests, or if you just want me to pick something up for you when I go shopping!
----2015----
I'm spending three months abroad this summer in Germany. I'm traveling with a friend and we're looking for places to stay while we city-hop. (My friend's profile is here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/alexander-wilson-772.)
I'm currently living in a dormitory at university, but I fully intend to host guests in the future.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I've spent eight years working in radio. Metal tends to be my go-to music, but I also really love classical, blues, and jazz music.
Movies: The Matrix, Chasing Amy, Lord of the Rings trilogy; Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are on my list of favorite series as well
Books: I read a lot more nonfiction and than fiction. Right now I'm in the middle of Principles by Ray Dalio.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've spent eight years as an on-air radio DJ!
Teach, Learn, Share
I will gladly practice or teach English with any hosts. I play drums, if that ever becomes relevant. I also enjoy photography and can show you around a DSLR.
What I Can Share with Hosts
An opportunity to practice English (or teach your native language!), math help, and good conversation.
As above, I'll cook!
