About Me

Hey!

We are a pair of travelers, Elisa from Finland and Matt from England. Both of us are divers by nature and profession who just left behind our jobs on Koh Phi Phi Thailand to go and explore the wonders of India via Kuala Lumpur – who knows where else we will end up!

Meeting new people and discovering new places is a big part of what we do, having both been 'on the road' for a number of years now. Meaning we have plenty of stories to tell and lots of tips and recommendations so feel free to pick our brains.

Our personalities are similar if not identical in that we firmly believe having fun is the most important thing in almost everything we do. Needless to say we spend plenty of time chilling out simply enjoying the views and listening to music but we also know how to have a good night in the town.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is surprisingly our first time on the official couchsurfing site although needless to say we have done our fair share of couchsurfing in the past. It was recommended to us from a previous colleague and seemed like a great way to help us through our journey.

Everyone knows that locals advise is always the best advise and that is what we need most as we travel, of course any insider information will be greatly appreciated and we can promise to do our best to return the favour when needed. Backpacking on a budget is the social norm but we have decided that for this trip we really want to minimise our costs and do as much as possible through meeting the right people in the right places. Hitch hiking and lift sharing will also play a part in our travels through India.

In terms of accommodation, anywhere in relative safety is all we are looking for. After a while bouncing around certain countries a real bed becomes a luxury and a couch is a privilege. A small patch of floor space or a hammock in the garden is perfect for what we need. (For the record, we would never say no to a nice comfortable bed)

So really any form of help in any way will be taken on board and in return we can promise to give you plenty of laughs and even teach you a bit about diving and our knowledge on different parts of the world.

Interests

The obvious answer would be exploring new places and cultures, the freedom that comes with this hobby is what makes it so exhilarating and the people along the way are what makes it so pleasurable.

When we do decide to settle down and breathe for a while, diving is what we crave. Both of us are scuba diving professionals in the job for all the right reasons. After all, the say that if you find a job you love then you'll never work a day in your life! It's tough but someone has to do it! When we get back home after a day in the water then good food, music and movies is what we use to while away the evenings on the balcony.

Music, Movies, and Books

Elisas guilty pleasures are Justin Bieber and Britney Spears (don't ask!) but don't worry you can rely on Matt to swiftly turn that off and swap it for some chilled acoustic tracks or old school dance depending on the mood!

Matt has never been a huge movie man but if he had to name his all time favorites, Gladiator would sit at number one. Elisa will watch almost anything but gets especially excited if it has Jude Law in it. Both of us are looking forward to discovering our love for Bollywood!

Unfortunately neither of us are big fictional readers but you'll normally be able to find us in the fish identification section of the library.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Matt – I spent a month of my time in Africa living with a remote maasai tribe living their way of life. Herding cattle, building camp, chasing away the predators and sleeping under the stars became normal for me. Something I will never forget is how much happiness they had with so little.

Elisa – Put up with Matt.

Teach, Learn, Share

It goes without saying that anyone who wants to learn about diving is more than welome to contact us and location depending we may actually be able to take you out diving! We can also teach you English and Elisa will happily teach you Finnish, in fact she loves it when people speak her language!

We always like to learn about new cultures and countries we haven't yet visited. It excites and fuels us to get there even quicker!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sharing is caring right? We can keep you amused by sharing our stories (funny, stupid and scary) of our adventures and we can for sure share a bottle of something whilst we chat!
