ABOUT ME

29 years old, coming from a small town near Milan, where I graduated in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation.

After an Erasmus year in Darmstadt I've moved around in Germany doing this and that till I decided to come to Tübingen to study Pedagogy and German as a Second Language (Sprachförderung). I am currently working for a translation agency in Stuttgart.

Languages are my deepest passion. I love to teach and learn them and there's nothing that makes me happier than the possibility of switching from one language to another several times during one conversation.

I freak out when I discover etymological connections between words in different languages -- Did you know that the German informal word "pennen" (to sleep) and the Italian "pennichella" (nap) both come from the Latin "pendiculare" (to lean), referring to the position your head takes when you suddenly fall asleep?! (Yes, I know you probably don´t give a **** :D)

I like eating and especially trying new dishes.
I love cooking. I'm not the typical Italian only-spaghetti-eater, I like everything and love experimenting...unfortunately that doesn't mean I can do it sooo good (I'm improving!)

I hate high heels, too elegant dresses and generally all the places that require that.

Between "make up and look good" and "sleep 10 minutes more" I definitely choose the second one.

I´m a professional shower singer and I like pretending I can play keyboard
(I even bought one for 30 Euros at a flea market).

I'm hopeless and embarassing at every kind of sport but I try to practice some... because endorphines make you happy! :D
I´m currently into Zumba: While dancing I look like a potato and feel like Beyoncé :D

I´ve also recently discovered the pleasure of dancing Salsa; I know only the basic steps and a couple of turns but I´ve a lot of fun!! :D

I've a VERY BAD sense of direction. So bad I usually can´t find the place even using Google Maps. Despite of that, I love going for long walks or ride bike, lost in my thoughts (and most of the times literally lost :D) or chatting with good friends.

PHILOSOPHY

The only way to find yourself is to get lost (Yes, being lost is kinda my recurring thing :D). So, do what your heart tells you, even if it's against common sense, even if you're scared, even if it's dangerous and you can be hurt.

I love reflecting on the meaning of words, expressions, gestures and habits we consider "normal"; finding similarities and differences among languages and cultures.

I find plurilinguism and the language acquisition process fascinating.

I should read more and watch something more demanding than Friends and Breaking Bad, I know. I always say it and do it so seldom. Anyway, here some titles I enjoyed:

Books: The invisible cities (I. Calvino) The Prophet (K. Gibran), Memoirs of a Geisha (A. Golden), Madame Bovary (G. Flaubert), The Alchemist (P. Coehlo), Divided Kingdom (R. Thomson).

Movies: Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, La Vita è bella, Seven Pounds, The King's Speech, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Terminal, Inception, Gattaca, The Danish Girl, The Theory of Everything, Angry Indian Goddesses, Across the Universe, The Way he looks, Spanglish, L' Auberge Espagnole (yes, probably because I was Erasmus! ;D), Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, Jeux d'Enfants, Les Combattants, Tokyo Fiancée, El Secreto de sus Ojos, Todo sobre mi Madre, Relatos Salvajes...

And then...ok, i must confess i'm one of those girls who has seen Notting Hill, Pretty Woman and My best Friend's Wedding like a million times.

Music: I don't really have a huge music culture. I can't properly identify genres, I usually don't know the title of the most popular hits and neither the name of the singer. I like a little bit of everything, according to my mood.
To make some names: Bandabardò, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Daft Punk, Legião Urbana, Vetusta Morla, Izal, El Canijo de Jerez, La Vida Bohème, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, Electric Guest, Green Day, Zaz, Negrita, Subsonica, ...
