ABOUT ME
I always feel like I'm terrible at these little short-blurb-about-yourself-things...anyways, I love to travel, love getting to know new people, love that both of these things always seem to make me look at life in new/interesting/better ways.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My roommate Claire and I are just starting to couchsurf host at our place in Vancouver (which I just moved into this summer). I have hosted previously when I lived in France, and she has lived in a place that hosted couchsurfers. We've also both been hosted through couchsurfing quite a bit while travelling.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
As a surfer: 3 months couch surfing around various places in Europe. I met so so many great people, it was a wonderful experience, and definitely changed the way that I travel and the way that I view travelers.
As a host: living in Cahors, France, I had a bit of extra space for surfers in my apartment. I didn't have too many - I only lived there only the winter and it wasn't a popular time to visit - but I enjoyed being able to give back to the couchsurfing community after experiencing such great hospitality during my Europe/backpacking summer.
Interests
When I'm not studying/working (or procrastinating by wandering aimlessly through cyberspace), I like to read, to cook and bake, to play sports (soccer, volleyball), hang out with friends (sometimes we bring books with us and this counts as "studying"). In Vancouver (where I grew up) it rains a lot so when we get some sun I try and make the most of it by doing something that takes me outside. I also love to write/receive letters and am trying to single-handledly revive snail mail. That's about all I can think of right now.
I also love to learn new languages: Spanish, Croatian and Japanese are next on my list but I'm happy to learn other languages too.

Music, Movies, and Books
Some movies that I like: Ferris Bueler's Day Off, the Lord of the Rings, Across the Universe, Les Intouchables, Pride and Prejudice.
Some books that I love: Pride and Prejudice, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, After Birth by Elisa Albert, The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin (if you want a gateway book into the genre of speculative fiction, I recommend this one). For word- and language-lovers, the book Other-Wordly is beautiful (based on this blog: http://other-wordly.tumblr.com/). My favourite children's book is I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen (it's a good read for any age).
Some bands/artists that I love: Bon Iver, Ben Howard, Alexi Murdoch, Metric, the XX, City and Colour, the Tallest Man on Earth, Etta James, Hey Ocean, Foo Fighters, Daughter.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
During my time studying in Paris, I was left awestruck about once a week when I would walk down one of the many bridges that crosses over the Seine and marvel about how beautiful it is and how amazing it is to be able to spend a couple months of my life living and studying in Paris.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to learn how to cook dishes from other cultures/places.
I'm happy to teach English and French to anyone who would like to learn.
And I would love to share cool travel stories!
