About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Take life in.

ABOUT ME

High-spirited. Philosophical. Would eat anything. Redhead. Definitely not an "orange-head". Talkative to the point that people will need to cut me off. Eternal Optimist. Curious. Obsessed with acquiring new experiences. Always expecting the unexpected. Love to laugh and would laugh at nearly everything, even at things that aren't funny to me. Cannot stand small talks. It is hard to stop when it is time to stop. When it's all business, I'm all business. Cars are boring. Books rule the world. Believe in the adage, "If it is not broken, don't fix it". Sometimes forget that I need to look before I leap. Easy to shake off embarrassing moments. Follow the organized mess lifestyle. Antiquities make me happy. Always feel like life is too short and too wondrous.

American Sign Language is my native language. Why? I am Deaf! I can barely read lips, so lip-reading is out for me :) Fluent in English. Conversational in French Sign Language as well as written French. Shakily conversational in Spanish (I read better than I write). Used to be fluent in Chilean Sign Language and conversational in Argentine Sign Language, but since I haven't used them for the past year, they're getting quite rusty. Also, I must emphasize that I am still studying French and Spanish, so language barriers exist!

PHILOSOPHY

"To laugh is to risk appearing the fool.

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.

To reach for another is to risk involvement.

To expose your ideas, your dreams, before a crowd is to risk their loss.

To love is to risk not being loved in return.

To live is to risk dying.

To believe is to risk despair.

To try is to risk failure.

But risks must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The people who risk nothing, do nothing, have nothing, are nothing.

They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love, live.

Chained by their attitudes they are slaves; they have forfeited their freedom.

Only a person who risks is free."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf =) and when I return to the United States, I intend to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to this!

Interests

One thing I definitely have in common with you: traveling!

Other than that...

I relish in meeting new people. Wikipedia is one of my guilty pleasures. Conversations about subjects not discussed every day. Books keep me happily occupied. Learning languages make me feel smarter and wiser. Aspiring to be the next JK Rowling or George Eliot. Fashion delights me. Finding something new to experience.

Bottom line: life interests me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Classics all the way!

I have a special aversion to books published in this century.

Jane Austen is the favorite.

My goal is to read all classic books before I turn 25.

Rock opera is the musical genre I generally adore.

However, I am no music expert for I do not listen to music as much as you guys do. I judge music based on their lyrics rather than how they sing it.

Movies, hmm, I am inclined to fall in love with movies made outside the United States. "Run Lola Run" is the champion so far!

"Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits."
- Satchel Paige

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Saw two rainbows at once.

- Changed a person's view of life just by being at the right place at the right time. Simple as that.

- Being welcomed into a small shack for dinner by a very, very poor couple very happy and very much in love.

- Became so comfortable in another language that I cannot even speak in my own native language for a week.

- Iguazu Falls: the most beautiful place I ever saw in my life so far.

- Random kind acts of strangers.

- Things work out because of pure luck.

- Evidence that shows that people can survive, endure, grow, and strengthen from hard-earned lessons they learned midst chaos.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am up to swap anything with. Be it cooking, philosophy, ideas, life lessons in general, and so forth on, I welcome generally everything.

What I can teach is mainly my sign language. American Sign Language is my native language and it is a joy of mine to share this beloved language! I would be more than happy to guide you around in my city and to explain away some cultural quirks you might detect over here.

Everyone has something to share, to teach, and to learn, so I will have something to share, to teach, and to learn and so will you.

"That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you've understood all your life, but in a new way."
- Doris Lessing
