Overview
About Me
I'm a thirty-something woman who's currently my children's primary caretaker, having been in former lives a floral designer, a travel coordinator, and a helper at a hipster soup shop.
I'm easygoing and even-tempered, with a strong sense of justice and a passion to see the world. I'm a complete introvert, so I can come off as fairly reserved upon a first meeting, but it's not that I dislike you - it's just that I never know what to say. I like best to sit in the corner of a small group of people chatting animatedly, so that I can warm up and eventually chime in when I get comfortable.
I'm the mother of one kindergarten-aged daughter (with another on the way!), and often travel together with my family. My daughter is reserved as well but animated once she gets going, and completely full of questions about how the world works.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm highly introverted - but even so, I like meeting new people. I thrive best when meeting new people in intimate, unthreatening environments, so couch surfing is a better fit for me than trying to make friends at huge parties!
Up until now I've mostly couchsurfed in the old-fashioned way, by crashing with people I know (or at least friends of people I know). I haven't yet had the chance to test the waters of this brave new world of internet-facilitated couch hookups, but I'm optimistic. I don't think people would generally put themselves out there on a site like this unless they were invested in the idea of connecting with people from all over the world.
Personally, I also have an intense desire to engage with the world on a very experiential level. When I travel (and I do love to travel), I like to feel like a native as much as possible. I want to blend in with the crowd, find out what it's like to eat street food, visit out-of-the-way gems as well as tourist icons. I travel for glimpses of culture and history and truth, not glamour.
At the moment our housing situation doesn't lend itself to much hosting (we have couch and floor space, but no spare bedrooms). Hopefully we can begin forays into that arena as well.
Interests
My family and I are deeply involved in medieval recreation, and my personal interests veer sharply into historical costuming as well, so if you want to chat about 15th century clothing for hours, I'm your girl.
I also love reading, gaming (mostly board and tabletop RPGs, though I dabble in video games and various other genres), knitting, 'natural living,' handcrafting of pretty much all types, history, and mischief. I geek out about certain television shows, but it's also a running joke that I have yet to see dozens of significant films and shows.
