About Me

I'm Liz, I studied American Sign Language, Linguistics, and International Relations in college and just finished teaching English at a university this last year in France. My boyfriend, Zach (just graduated college!), and I are trying to backpack through Europe this summer, and we'll be arriving in Dublin on May 31st and we have no concrete plans from there on out - still looking for places to stay! I'm a very excited person, as my friends would be quick to inform you, and absolutely love seeing new places and learning about people. I always joke that "If it were possible to major in "Meeting People," then that's what I would be doing," and I really look forward to meeting many more people from all over the world thanks to this website!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting someone in these new places will hopefully teach me how to 'do as the locals do,' and will lead to making a new friend! I love hosting friends and family all the time, and always think staying with (soon to be) friends is the best way to enjoy your time while traveling!

Interests

Always an artist, I love painting, drawing, cake-decorating, really anything that involves making something. I'm trying to learn about and get into living a no-waste and more intentional lifestyle, and eating a more whole foods and plant-based diet. I'm trying lots of new recipes, I really love food and love being outdoors! Honestly my most ideal situation: eating Polish tomatoes on a beach (or just being outside in nature) in the sun with my boyfriend (Zach), and those are basically all of my favorite things. (I also really do love couches, I've always loved sleeping on couches since I was a kid, but it would probably be a little hard to get a couch out to the beach.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Shamelessly obsessed with Ke$ha, Kim Petras, Ed Sheeran, Lorde, anything that catches my attention, and I will always recognize and sing along to the oldies.
As for movies, I'm always down for High School Musical (music and all of the movies), Burlesque, Forrest Gump, and as always - a good Disney movie.
For books I highly recommend 'Sapiens' by Yuval Noah Harari (required reading to exist as a human on this planet) for non-fiction, and 'All the Light We Cannot See' by Anthony Doerr for fiction (WWII oriented). I also highly recommend the The Kiesha'ra Series for fantasy fiction, starting with 'Hawksong.'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I painted every day for a whole month in February 2018 which was pretty fun. Also attempted to do 'dry February' along with that and ended up only drinking about 2-3 times that month so I'd call that a win! (I'm quickly turning into a grandmother and will pass out after two glasses of wine, I'd easily say my college days are over now lol)

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's talk Deaf culture and languages! Or about minimalism, no waste lifestyles, and whole food plant-based diets! As well as the meaning of life, I love talking with people about what drives them in life, what their priorities are and why. I love food and love cooking, as well as art.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always open to share my life experiences or teach what I can about American Sign Language, Deaf culture, or really anything I've learned about in school or through teaching! I don't see a point in learning anything if you're not going to pass the knowledge onto others, so I would really love to discuss anything either you or I am passionate about. Also if you're learning English, we can do some phonetic training if you'd like!
