About Me

I am currently a Peace Corps volunteer in eastern Georgia (the country, not the state). I work in a school teaching English to about 180 students who come from Georgian, Azeri, and Ossetian backgrounds. If you'd like, I would be more than happy to share stories about my experience so far!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting people while I travel and love hearing people's stories. I think Couchsurfing is a great way to meet locals who are excited about their city and provides an experience beyond the typical "touristy" affairs that one may get sucked into while traveling to a new place.

Interests

Travel, my dog, exploring, hiking, food (especially cheese), and good company.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot, especially since I became a PCV. My favorite books that I've read during my service so far are (in no particular order): The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, Rules of Civility by Amor Towles, Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a hike to Black Rock Lake, which is half in Georgia and half in Russia. It had been sunny for weeks but on day 2 of the hike (the day we were actually going to reach the lake), it was rainy and cold, which we were not prepared for. Since the lake is so close to the border, there's a Georgian military outpost a few km before the lake where you have to get your passports checked. Since it was raining, the soldiers let us hang out in their tent and one even lent me a jacket to wear to the lake. I don't know if it's the most "amazing" thing I've done, but it's certainly one of my most memorable experiences from this past year.
