About Me

Term just began for my dual degree program in Library Science and Art History, so I keep busy with classwork and occasional moments of adventuring about my new home in Chapel Hill.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My family has a multi-generational habit of opening our homes to folks, and couchsurfing is a great way to bring in others from even further afield.

I'm also on here in the hopes of finding others to stay with when I do my own travelling. There's nothing better than meeting people on their home turf in a new place.

Interests

Quirky cultural celebrations/activities and standard museum visits are necessary stops on a trip for me.
But generally, I'm a big cyclist and love being out of doors, whether that be on the water, in the woods or tromping through a city.

Music, Movies, and Books

As a librarian, I'm an omnivorous reader and a general lover of stories (including most movies that aren't too graphically violent).
I'm a musical magpie--the only thing I don't really listen to is hard metal that's all scream and distortion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A friend, her family and I swam in the Xlacah Cenote (part of the Dzibilchaltun ruins complex near Merida/Progreso, Mexico) and dove down to get a closer look at the opening in the limestone that feeds it. It was like swimming in a Fiji bottle, it was so clear. And the fish kept coming to say hello by nibbling at our legs.

Teach, Learn, Share

LEARN: Whatever you have to offer, it's more than likely that I'm interested in listening and/or participating.

SHARE: As the daughter of a man with 18 siblings and 2 of my own, I've accumulated some thoroughly ridiculous (and entirely true) stories over the years.

TEACH: How to make the most of your local libraries and resources. Baking. Print making from items you likely already have at home. Book/journal making. English language. Various card games.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Enthusiasm, baked goods and a helping hand.
Feeding folks is a compulsion, so if you like downing anything from soda bread to pumpkin bars, I'm happy to accommodate. And if I don't know how to make it, first-time tries usually end pretty deliciously, too.
Having moved so much, I've learned quite a bit about DIYing, whether it be crafting or home improvement. So if you're looking for an extra body to help out with that project that's been woefully neglected for the past who-know-how-long, you've found an extra set of hands.
Plus, if you're a student writing papers or applying for jobs, I'm a thorough editor and can definitely take a look.
