ABOUT ME

Friendly, intellectual, curious, creative, philosophical, determined, open-minded, down-to-earth, music lover, bookworm, cat admirer, good cook, nature lover. Some words to describe me but I'm sure they don't paint the whole picture.

Grew up in sunny South Africa, the youngest of six children. I've visited Europe three times and have fallen in love with it, the greenery, the feel of the oldness of the cities as you walk on their cobblestones and stand in their fallen castles. Probably has a lot to do with my love of fantasy books like Lord of the Rings and The Belgariad.

I love deep thoughts, I yearn for substance in everyday conversation and encounters. Music and books allow me to live vicariously - a life that I would never have known without them. I love the structure that science brings to the world, the power of being able to unravel how things work, to learn from nature and reapply its teachings in our current lives.

I've got so many opinions, so many different facets of myself, that I don't know where to begin and can't write everything here. Ask me if you want to know more. Oh and I think I talk in paragraphs ;)

PHILOSOPHY

I think you should embrace life in all it's facets, the good and the bad. I think all experiences have something to teach you, something you can take from them and use later on. I think you should try to live without fear because it incapacitates you. There is nothing to fear except fear itself. Well, that saying sounded cool to me once but I'm no wise old woman that knows the secrets of the world. I try to be a realist but stay optimistic, I try to be open minded but stay true to my own principles. I try to keep on learning and experiencing and living.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a new couch surfer so haven't participated at all (yet!). Would love to have a first experience in Rome, and when I have a place of my own where I can host other surfers I'll definitely enjoy meeting all the many different people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first CS experience was in Italy and I'm sooooo happy I decided to do it! Had a bit of a rocky start, but Giuseppi and Roberto made sure it ended with unbelievable memories! Never dreamed I would see Rome on the back of a scooter, I'll never forget these memories :D And meeting up with fellow CSers Paul and Natalia meant I was welcomed with open arms everywhere I went.

I definitely recommend CSing to everyone everywhere, if you don't dare you'll never feel the exhiliration it gives you! Oh and the look on all my (relatively scaredy-cat) friends' and family's faces when I tell them of my experiences... Hehehe!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music:
Music flows through me and makes me live vicariously through the emotions and words and experiences of the artist. A song can be great, but without meaningful lyrics it can't be phenomenal. I love many genres, from metal to rock to alternative to Celtic to classical. Some of my favourite bands are Rammstein, Tool, Muse, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Enya, Fokofpolisiekar, Imogen Heap...

Books:
I love reading but I never seem to have enough time for it, although audiobooks help. I love fantasy, science fiction and detective stories. I am trying to work my way through some of the classics like "1984" and "Stranger in a strange land". Some of my favourite authors are: Raymond Feist, Terry Pratchett, JRR Tolkien.

Movies:
I love a movie that makes you think, that shakes you to the bone. One of my recent favourites was Cloud Atlas. I love fantasy (LOTR, The Hobbit) and science fiction (Inception, Fifth Element) as well as what I classify as "mind-fuck" (The Others, Cloud Atlas). As long as a movie has some substance I think I'll probably like it.
