About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live the moment

ABOUT ME

Hoi! (that's hey in Dutch)

I'd like to think of myself as truely open-minded, as being a light-hearted, fun, positive person. I try to be free of judgement and without prejudice. I love to discuss all sorts of topics and see all sides of ways why people do as they do and the influence of cultural and social environment on a person.

I have been brought up with a big belief in independance and the power of the individual. And that if we want we can make change happen. Even in very small things. One step at a time, that's all it takes. I also belief strongly that every action, however small can have a major impact. We are all tiny parts in the big machine that's the universe and we are all linked together. So I try to act responsibly and postively, in everything I do. I'm a bit of a buddhist, really! ;-)

I own a fantastic party venue together with my sister, my brother in law and his brother. A true family business! We use mainly organic produce as also in our business we do our best in taking our responsibility for a sustainable future. I occupy myself there mainly with cooking, baking, client admin and updating our website. But you can also find me behind the bar, or doing the dishes! ;-)

I am extremely busy working at our business at the weirdest of hours and mostly in the weekends, but I always manage to find time to spend with my great couchsurfer friends.

At the moment I can't travel much myself, but I love hosting those of you who do. In this way, the world out there literally comes into my living room!

So far I have no regrets about anything I have done. I am officially an art-historian and have worked in several photo-archives. I have also been a volunteer in many organizations, including being a Greenpeace activist (yes those weirdos that chain themselves to buildings and go around in those fast rubber-boats!
;-)).

Nothing can really shock me anymore, but I can still get fascinated by many things and many people.

I hope to meet you sometime soon!!

Doei!(that's bye in Dutch)

PHILOSOPHY

We should be the change we wish to see in the world!

Ghandi said this.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If I have time from my ever busy working schedule I can show my couchsurfer around my home town. I will definitely cook you a delicious vegetarian meal! Of course we can go to one of the couch surfer meetings in The Hague or another nearby town.

I made a handy info map in google maps for the Hague:

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: all films by Jacques Tati, the Coen brothers, David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino.
Books: Terry Pratchett, Salman Rushdie, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Ben Okri, Naguib Mahfouz.
Music: Radiohead, Editors, Interpol, Killing Joke, New Model Army, The Sound, The Chameleons, Joy Division. But I also love '70's disco and tacky eighties stuff. Seeing one of my favourite bands play live always gives me a great kick.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling in Yemen. A profoundly beautiful country with beautiful people. Most precious moment I relish is walking through the ancient city gate of Taiz while watching the sun set in a red flame and all the town's mua'zins calling for prayer at once.
