ABOUT ME
Hello,
I live with my boyfriend on a hill-everywhere is a hill in Sheffield. I attempt to grow plants, but am a bit too erratic in my watering habits to get a good crop. I used to live in a field in Cornwall but re-urbanised a couple of years ago to go back to Uni-it's what I want but I miss the wild life!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've head my head in the books for a little while now but the shop I work at is very community centered and it keeps me in touch with normal people (ie, non-academics!). Sheffield has a lively community scene that is really important to my sense of being here, and although I'm not especially active with regards putting on events, I love to attend them.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've not done it before-friends have been involved for years, but this is the first place I've lived where it was really feasible.
Interests
Diverse. I'm not very good and maths and stuff, but I like the sound of it. Very happy out of doors, doing whatever-I can sail/ride/cycle...not much shakes at climbing (I've never understood why people want to go to really beautiful places and then spend the whole day with their backs to it looking at a big rock, but I am almost alone in Sheffield on that one, we're overrun with climbers!). I like cooking but I love the food my boyfriend makes even more.

Music, Movies, and Books
too many...
Almost anything with Tilda Swinton in it, quite a lot of arty stuff but less so feeling-heavy indie movies. For sheer comfort value, dodgy 80s/90s fantasy. I'm getting really in to comics/graphic novels (it's part of my Ph.D anyhow). When I go out big it's usually dub or some such variant, and to gigs anything goes-we saw Anna Calvi here recently who was AMAZING, and have had her album on repeat. Melt Banana was my best gig of last year, along with Bethoven's 5th at the Bridgewater hall (can I call that a 'gig'? anyway, I cried). Oh and I finally read Middlemarch, which is pretty close to the top of my book list. My favourite living prose writer is probably J.M Coetzee, and poetry without contest is Derek Walcott.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm fairly well traveled and from quite an outdoor-y family, so I've had some stunning experiences of wilderness, and understand what it is to travel significant distances under your body's own steam. That said, my most profound experience was working in care looking after old people in Cornwall.
