Hi!

My name is Ellen, I recently graduated and I started working close by Delft, Netherlands. I love traveling and have been to (and lived in) several places. I have stayed longer time frames in Japan (10 months) and Switzerland (5 months). Something I really enjoy is meeting new people and sharing culture and food :)

In Switzerland I got to know that this Dutch girl is not a real Dutch girl without her bike. I was very happy I could borrow one, because cycling = freedom :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here because I want to meet new people and maybe meet up while I am traveling.

Interests

I really enjoy talking to people from different countries about cultural differences and language. When I meet people and I know some words in their language, I will try to say them. I know some words in Hindi, Bengali, French, Spanish, Chinese, Persian and I think that is it for the languages I know a few words in.

I also enjoy cooking and eating good food. In the Netherlands there is not a real food culture (at least not in the Northern part of it, a bit more in the Southern part). That is something I really miss, so mostly I cook foreign dishes. Actually this is also what happens in our restaurants, there are not really Dutch restaurants. And! We combine Chinese and Indonesian cuisine to a new Dutch variety and we call it Chinese food. And there are a lot of these restaurants.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to really all kinds of music, I had my hard rock/metal period when I was 16 and I can still enjoy it a lot. But I also enjoy classical music a lot, mostly piano.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Planning to go to Zermatt in Switzerland and then ending up to go to another valley because I talked to an older Swiss lady about an amazing 6h hike there. She gave me her address so that I could send her a card to ensure that I arrived safely to the end point. The hike was amazing and I also went to the hostel she recommended, it was also totally worth it. When I was back in the Netherlands a card from her arrived :)
