About Me

CURRENT MISSION

drink tea.

ABOUT ME

I study Christian Ethics at my home university in Nashville, TN, but I am currently studying divinity at St. Andrews in Scotland. I'm shy, but I like people a lot. I have the best dog in the world, I want to be a beekeeper and farmer when I grow up, and I have lived in a community house for the past two years. I play banjo and a little bit of accordion, and I played piano for 10 years, but haven't been able to recently. I'd like to go to grad school but I probably don't have the money. Money sucks. But if I could, I would get a masters in environmental sociology or social ecology.

I like: big dogs, wild animals (esp: foxes and anything that looks like a fox, wolves, lions, narwals, everything ever), lotr memes, red wine, whiskey, Scotland, St. Francis, skirts/dresses/boots/hats/tights, extra crunchy peanut butter, being barefoot, delta blues, hot tea, sweet tea, bluegrass, and the mississippi river.

Feel free to add me on facebook.

PHILOSOPHY

Those who shun the whimsy of things will experience rigor mortis before death. - Tom Robbins

My personal philosophy is always changing. Right now I want to love people and destroy things that don't foster love. I believe in things that impart grace and even though I am shy, I will always give hugs if they are wanted or needed.

I'm looking to live simply, watch people grow food, wear straw hats and old clothing. I really don't want much, except a life lived by good ethics.

But right now I'm just in school accumulating debt. It's a sad juxtaposition.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just joined couchsurfing, even though I could have sworn a had a profile a few years ago. Oh well. So I haven't been able to participate :( But I'd like to start!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

One time, some couch surfers came to Nashville to stay with my housemate's friend, but he couldn't host them so he asked us if we could. We said yes, but they decided not to. I was sad, because I wanted to cook them dinner. That's my experience with couchsurfing.

Interests

Anything related to bean burritos and mexican food I am all over. Sweet tea, hell yeah. I already said that, though. So, I enjoy: banjos, camping, soy milk, learning self-sufficiency skills, WWOOFing, the southern United States, boys in straw hats, going on adventures, the Middle East, getting lost, farms, theology, ethics, taking naps, bonfires, sitting by rivers, communal living, and blowing stuff up. I will not blow your things up. That's a promise.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite two bands are mewithoutYou and the Psalters, but I wouldn't say those are indicative of the rest of my music taste. When it comes to genres, I like your typical hipster bullshit, bluegrass, old country, delta blues, folk, freakfolk, indie, Balkan, whatever and everything.

I like: Man Man. Psalters. mewithoutYou. Devendra Banhart. Sufjan Stevens. Hawk and a Hacksaw. Son House. Earl Scruggs. Buddy Guy. Barefoot Surrender. Pete Seeger. Woody Guthrie. Malvina Reynolds. Tom Waits. Elvis. Jeff Pianki. Lesser Beggars. theillalogicalspoon. Seth Martin. Samuel Lockridge & the Sowers. Simon & Garfunkel. Billie Holiday. The Welcome Wagon. Panda Bear. Ray Lamontagne. MIA. The Avett Brothers. Donovan. Jeff Buckley. Stevie Wonder. The Stanley Brothers.

Currently reading - The Alphabet Versus the Goddess (Shlain), The Brothers Karamazov (Dostoevsky). The Tribes of Yahweh: A Sociology of the Religion of Liberated Israel (Gottwald). And various book about beekeeping, homesteads, and sustainable agriculture.

Favourites - The Kingdom of Gd is Within You (Tolstoy). Jitterbug Perfume (Robbins). Still Life With Woodpecker (Robbins). The Little Prince (Saint-Exupery). Anything by Rumi, Hafiz, or Rabia. Anything by e.e. cummings. Endgame (Jensen). Jesus for President (Claiborne). Civil Disobedience (Thoreau). Theopolitical Imagination (Cavanaugh). Anything by Derrick Jensen, especially the Endgame books.

I don't really care for movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have sat on a fire escape in Istanbul and listened to the last adhan of the night coming from at least seven different minarets.

I like to watch squirrels chatter amongst themselves.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a few chords on banjo if you happen to have one sitting around and don't already know how to play. I can teach you the basics of accordion, although from experience I can tell you it's hard to get past that. I can teach you a song on piano. I can tell you stories about the deep south. I can recommend books and show you how to make french press coffee (because it's really not difficult). If you have questions about religion(s), I may be able to answer. If you have questions about how Christian Anarchism doesn't really make sense, I'll probably agree with you but try to explain it anyway.

Countries I’ve Visited
