About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to flourish where ever I land

ABOUT ME

Just an absurdist stern follower of Dionysus looking for a good time or a quiet park in the sun.

From traveling I'm learning how simple life can be, and what it really takes to survive and enjoy yourself (it's less than many people may think).

Travel is stressful, exhausting and so rewarding. You really have to trust yourself that you will find the right path, the right people. This is one of my favorite things about travel, learning to trust your own intuition.

PHILOSOPHY

The word philosophy is a difficult for me-- I always think of my old friends Descartes and Spinoza.

Otherwise, let's say I'm dancing a delicate balance between learning, remembering and forgetting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Telling everyone I meet about the glories of CS! Can't wait to have a place with a proper guest room so I can repay the universe for its endless hospitality!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The couchsurfing hosts of France changed my life for the better. I was a little unsure of the project when I started my travels but now I'm converted! I love this new era of hospitality. My only lament is that I have not had to chance to host any surfers yet.

Music, Movies, and Books

Agnès Varda, Polanski, Kubrick, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fellini, Cohen Bros...

Henry Miller and Lawrence Durrell. Julio Cortázar is quite possible my favorite author of all time. Also Schopenhauer, Proust, Ginsberg, Nabokov, Baudelaire...

Music, certainly the classics: Frederic Chopin, Stan Getz, Led Zeppelin, ELO, Erik Satie, Radiohead, JS Bach, Elvis, The Who, Stephen Malkmus, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Hank Williams, George Jones, Claude Debussy, Harry Nilsson, King Crimson, Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding... NEW STUFF too: Alt-J, Dirty Projectors, Magnetic Fields, Feist, Fleet Foxes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Almost mastered the public transit of Southern India / Swam with swans in the Rhone / Tried to farm through the worst drought in 100 years in Texas / Sat alone in Paris cafés / Found secret swimming spots in Austin / Tried to eat all of the Oaxacan street food in LA

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to practice my Spanish and French, and always looking to learn any new languages too!

Esoteric knowledge I have! As well as a few practical things.

I work as a bartender so I know a few things about wine & booze: growing regions, grape varietals, cocktails recipes and techniques, etc. A bit of art history and of course kitchen knife skills also available to share. I was a strict vegetarian for many years and still love to eat/cook that way (though I'm omnivorous now). I like sharing the tricks of the nutritional trade.
